Windlass Steelcrafts
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Windlass Steelcraft is a company based in Dehra Dun, India, producing replicas of swords, sabres and other historical arms and armour. The company goes back to a 1943 establishment selling Kukri knives. They are the official contractor for United States Marine Corps ceremonial swords and have produced cinema props for movie productions including Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Troy. Their main reseller in the U.S. is Museum Replicas Limited, a company owned by Atlanta Cutlery Corp., a mail order catalog company for hunting knives.
Windlass blades are a low price option for mass produced historical replicas, comparable to Hanwei. Their blades are shipped unsharpened, with an edge of about 1 mm, and some reseller may offer sharpened versions for an additional fee. Their longer blades have been criticized for being too "floppy" and for having a chrome coating.
