Windermere Preparatory School is a new private, pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, coeducational college preparatory school in the Windermere area. The school opened on September 5, 2000 using temporary portable classrooms with an enrollment of 184 students and 25 teachers. Today, that enrollment has grown to 720 students with a full fledged 48 acre campus. The Class of 2008 will be the first graduating class of Windermere Prep.[1] Windermere Prep is also one of the first private schools in Orange County to be fully wireless and requires most students to bring their own laptops to school. [2] It is currently under the ownership of Meritas. [3]

Windermere Preparatory School is a Class 1A school in the 11th FHSAA District [5]. Currently, the greatest varsity success Windermere Prep has is in their golf team with one of its students winning regionals in 2007[6], going on to finish 31st at the FSHAA State Finals [7].

With the purchase of the school by Meritas, the school has undergone great expansion ranging from a state of the art gymnasium to a brand new baseball field, and plans for a new high school building as well as a swimming pool. [8] Further plans include a Starbucks style café, fully equipped locker rooms, and a weight room.

Beginning in the summer of 2008, Lake Cypress Camp will begin on the campus of Windermere Preparatory School. A traditional day camp, Lake Cypress Camp will offer a full fun packed day filled with activities ranging from archery and soap making, to water melon seed spitting contests. The camp will also utilize the brand new olympic style swimming set to open summer 2008. There is no other camp quite like Lake Cypress in Central Florida.
