[edit] History
The business was started in 1880 by John R. Winder. Today the fifth and sixth generation of Winders continue in the company's operation, including company executives Kent and Mike Winder.
[edit] Place in Industry
While Winder Farms began as a traditional milkman, similar to Oberweis Dairy, its expansion into categories beyond dairy, along with its shift to orders primarily made online, place it more in the online grocer industry. While not as a large as Peapod, it has recently expanded throughout Utah and into Las Vegas.
[edit] Home delivery service
Winder Farms customers receive their delivery once per week, on a day assigned based on where the customer lives. Deliveries are made between midnight and 8:00 AM, and placed in a porch cooler outside of the customer's home. Order changes can be made up until 8:00 PM the night before deliveries, either online or by phone. Customers establish a "standing order", which is what the delivery driver will bring each week unless instructed otherwise. Changes, both temporary and permanent, can be made to this default, or "standing" order. Also, products can be added for a one-time delivery in addition to the standing order. They do not deliver to apartments.
[edit] Product health features
Winder Farms milk is certified to be from cows not treated with rBGH, recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone. rBGH has been outlawed in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and most EU countries. Additionally, Winder Farms' beef, poultry, and pork is always from livestock not injected with artificial growth hormones. Produce from Winder Farms is either organic, pesticide free, or locally grown. Baked goods are free of trans fats, partially hydrogenated oils, and artificial preservatives. Juices are fresh squeezed, and not from concentrate.
