"Wind It Up" is the second single from Canadian musical group Barenaked Ladies' 2006 album, Barenaked Ladies Are Me. The album recording features lead guitar and a solo by Kim Mitchell.
The song was first played for the public live at a 2005 Barenaked for the Holidays tour show on December 19 in Calgary, Alberta. It was then released in 'Simlish' (a gibberish language used in the Sim series of video games by Maxis) in the Sims 2 "Family Fun Stuff" expansion pack.
The final album version of “Wind It Up” was released as a b-side to the album’s first single, “Easy”,” on June 19, 2006. An acoustic version is available on the All New Revue album.
[edit] Music videos
Two official music videos were produced for the song. The first one does not feature any band members at all (a first for the band) and features Randy Van Stone competing in an air guitar competition. The second was made as part of a contest in which the band told fans to videotape themselves playing air guitar to the song and then upload the clips onto YouTube. The band then picked their favourite clips and then received the master copies to make a video. It is not too dissimilar to the video for Just A Day by Feeder, but on a larger scale. The winner of this contest, and several other entrants were invited to the taping of the Van Stone video, and can be seen performing on stage in the air guitar competition.
