[edit] Comparison between Windows Sharepoint Services and Wiki

Basically, Wikis are naturally geared towards placing content directly on pages (like most people would expect a web site to do), whereas Sharepoint is naturally geared to placing documents in folders. It's not that either can't do much that the other can do, it's a question of how most people end up using them.--Richard@lbrc.org 10:23, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

Actually, since Wiki Sites have been listed as a feature in SharePoint v3, I think this whole discussion is moot. However, while we're on the subject, I think the correct term would be "Wiki Site", since Wiki is technically an adjective, from Hawaiian, meaning "quick". (Of course, we'll probably have to ask Ward Cunningham himself for the correct usage of the word.
By the same token, all the press releases (if they can be called that) have referred to the feature as "wikis". I'm changing it to the grammar neutral "weblog and wiki support" for now, unless someone objects and changes it back (hopefully with a reasonable explanation).Viltris 05:55, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Support for ME and XP

The last sentence of the version 3.0 paragraph used to claim that WSS 3.0 "ended support for Windows 2000, but started on ME and XP." I'm not sure about ending support for Windows 2000, but as Windows 2000 has been succeeded by Windows 2003, I find that likely. However, WSS is a SERVER product. Therefore, I find it highly unlikely that WSS is supported on ME or XP, which are client versions of Windows. I find it espeicially odd to claim that WSS is supported on Windows ME, as ME, like all 9x-based windows, are no longer supported by ANYBODY. Viltris 20:07, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
