The Arms of Winchester College, are surmounted by the Mitre of William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester and the school's founder, and surrounded by the sash of the Order of the Garter of which Wykeham was Prelate ('Honi soit qui mal y pense' - 'Evil be to him who evil thinks'). Below is his personal motto 'Manners Makyth Man' which is also the College Motto.
