[edit] History

Wilmot could easily have been the main community of the town if the railroad had reached its location. Instead, it developed into a rather substantial business community because of its location on the Fox River. It is the Fox River that was harnessed to support the flour mill and when that burned, the river was again harnessed to generate electrical power. Wilmot supported all of the other areas of the town with electricity. In addition, it was one of the first areas, if not the first, to have telephones in the town. Lines from the operator's panel to the other hamlets in the town continued to lengthen in distance from the first pole setting each year until the entire town was 'wired'. Many of the earliest buildings still exist in the community.
