Willie Burton

Willie Ricardo Burton (born May 26, 1968 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Miami Heat in the 1st round (9th overall pick) in the 1990 NBA Draft from the University of Minnesota. Burton played for numerous NBA teams as a journeyman (from 1990-1999).

Burton scored 53 points in a game for the Philadelphia 76ers against former team Heat on December 13, 1994. He attended high school at Detroit St. Martin DePorres (closed in 2005) where he won back-to-back state championships in 1985 and 1986. Burton teamed with 2nd round draft pick Negele Knight (Phoenix Suns) while at DePorres, going undefeated (25-0) in 1985. In 1986, he teamed with Rodney Culver (Notre Dame - fullback, also of the San Diego Chargers), a passenger of the Valujet Flight 592 plane tragedy in 1996.
