Williams is a city in Colusa County, California, United States. The population was 3,670 at the 2000 census. It is a traveler's city with many fast food restaurants, motels, and gas stations. It's a city like Santa Nella, or its Glenn County counterparts to the north.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.4 square miles (14.1 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,670 people, 924 households, and 745 families residing in the city. The population density was 674.3 people per square mile (260.5/km²). There were 968 housing units at an average density of 177.8/sq mi (68.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 45.45% White, 0.49% Black or African American, 1.14% Native American, 1.14% Asian, 45.50% from other races, and 6.27% from two or more races. 71.20% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 924 households out of which 51.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.3% were non-families. 16.9% of all households were made up of single individuals and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.70 and the average family size was 4.18.

In the city the population was spread out with 34.6% under the age of 18, 12.9% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 15.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females there were 106.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $32,042, and the median income for a family was $36,389. Males had a median income of $29,625 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,010. About 15.5% of families and 19.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.1% of those under age 18 and 15.1% of those age 65 or over.

In the state legislature Williams is located in the 4th Senate District, represented by Republican Sam Aanestad, and in the 2nd Assembly District, represented by Republican Doug La Malfa. Federally, Williams is located in California's 2nd congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +13[2] and is represented by Republican Wally Herger.

[edit] Granzella's restaurant

On October 11, 2007, Granzella's restaurant burnt down to the ground. It was Colusa County's second largest employer. It opened in 1976 and has been a great stop for travelers, local & international, for 30 years. There are plans to rebuild in the coming year.
