William "Bill" Curry

William "Bill" Curry is an American politician. He served as Comptroller of the State of Connecticut in the early 1990s.
Curry, a Democrat, was elected Comptroller in November 1990. He served one term in office. In 1994 he sought the Democratic Party nomination for governor of Connecticut. The nomination went to then Connecticut Senate President Pro-Tempore John Larson.
Curry challenged Larson in a primary election in September 1994. Curry won the primary and faced former Waterbury Congressman John G. Rowland in the November election. The incumbent governor, Lowell P. Weicker, founder of A Connecticut Party did not seek re-election.
Curry lost the general election to Rowland in a three way race between him, Rowland and Lieutenant Governor Eunice Groark. Tolland State Representative Nancy Wyman was elected Comptroller in 1994.
Bill Curry and John Rowland would face one another again in the 2002 general election for governor. Curry again lost to Rowland by a landslide.
Following his gubernatorial election loss, Bill Curry begain working as a columnist for the Hartford Courant in Hartford, Connecticut.
