William Williams (New York)

William Williams (September 6, 1815 - September 10, 1876) was a U.S. Representative from New York.
Born in Bolton, Connecticut, Williams received a common-school education. He served as clerk in a bank in Windham, Connecticut. He moved to Sandusky, Ohio, in 1838, and to Buffalo, New York, in 1839, where he engaged in banking. He also served as a railroad manager and president. He served as member of the State assembly in 1866 and 1867.
Williams was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress (March 4, 1871-March 3, 1873). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1872 to the Forty-third Congress. Withdrew from public life and active business pursuits, and lived in retirement until his death in Buffalo, New York, September 10, 1876. He was interred in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
