William Watts Folwell (near Geneva, New York, 1833 – 1929) was a President of the University of Minnesota.
Folwell was just 36, and a Civil War veteran, when he became the University's first president, serving from 1869 to 1884. When Folwell assumed the University presidency there was but a single building, and the library consisted of only a 16 volume encyclopedia.
Folwell later became President of the Minnesota Historical Society serving there from 1924 to 1927.
