William Russell (Virginia)

General William Russell (1735 – January 14, 1793) was an American Revolutionary War officer and a prominent early settler of southwestern Virginia. Russell County, Virginia, and Russellville, Kentucky, are named for him, while Russell County, Kentucky, is named for his son William Russell (III).
