William Ruschenberger

Dr. William Samuel Waithman Ruschenberger (1807-1895) was an author and a physician in the United States Army Medical Corps. He was a member of the Academy of Natural Sciences He served as fleet surgeon on several USN cruises. He also served as a member of the Board of Appointments whose purpose was to form rules and plans for the United States Naval Academy. With the outbreak of the American Civil War, he was appointed chief surgeon at the Boston Navy Yard. Dr. Ruschenberger, USN, rose to the rank of commodore before he retired.
