William McAndrew was the first and fourth head football coach for the Southern Illinois Salukis in Carbondale, Illinois. He held that position for twenty-two seasons, from 1913 to 1916 and then returning from 1921 until 1938. His overall coaching record at SIU was 82 wins, 80 losses, and 20 ties. This ranks him first at SIU in terms of total wins and fifth at SIU in terms of winning percentage. [1] He also coached the Southern Illinois basketball team.
