William Ironside Groombridge was the first man known to have held the role of manager of English football (soccer) club Gillingham (known for most of his tenure as New Brompton F.C.).[1]

He had two spells in charge of the team (1896 to 1906 and 1908 to 1919), although, as was the norm in the early twentieth century, his job title was given at the time as "secretary".[2]
