William H. Hughes, Ph.D. was born August 14, 1955 in Madison, Wisconsin. At the University of Wisconsin he gained a B.S. in Education in 1977, a M.S. in Educational Administration in 1984, and a Ph.D in 1992; his dissertation was on Approaches Superintendents Use to Establish Relationships With the Board of Education. Since 1996, he has been the superintendent of the Greendale School District. He is involved in the civic mission of schools and is a consultant to school districts throughout the United States. As a child, Hughes appeared at the beginning of The War at Home, a documentary film about the anti-war movement in the Madison, Wisconsin area during the Vietnam War. It combines archival footage and interviews with the participants to explore the events of the period on around the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.
