William F. Curtis Arboretum

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William F. Curtis Arboretum (84 acres), sometimes called Curtis Arboretum, is an arboretum located across the campus of Cedar Crest College, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, United States. It is open daily without fee.

The arboretum began in 1915 when the college, at that time called the Allentown College for Women, moved to its current location. The site was then a cornfield with a single black walnut tree, but was gradually improved with the planting of trees, shrubs, and flowering bushes.

Although that original black walnut was destroyed in a violent storm on August 11, 1983, the arboretum now contains more than 135 varieties of trees and shrubs.
