William Dietz (congressman)

William Dietz was a United States Representative from New York. He was born in Scoharie on June 28, 1778. He attended the district schools and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He served as town clerk, and supervisor of Schoharie. Dietz served in the New York State Assembly, and was elected as a Jacksonian to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1827). He then served as a member of the New York State Senate, and resumed agricultural pursuits. He was also a colonel of the militia. Dietz died in Schoharie on August 24, 1848. His interment was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
