William Compton Bolton

Commodore William Compton Bolton, born William Bolton Finch (died 1849) was an officer in the United States Navy during the mid 1800s.

As William Bolton Finch, he commanded Vincennes on her around-the-world voyage.

He changed his name to William Compton Bolton in 1833. Bolton commanded the Pensacola Navy Yard from 1836-7. In 1848, he was the commander of the Mediterranean Squadron.

He died in 1849.

His widow, Mary H. Lynch Bolton, married Charles Wilkes on October 3, 1854. Commodore Bolton sat on Wilkes' court-marital board in 1842.
