William Charles Wentworth

William Charles Wentworth is the name of several members of the Wentworth family in New South Wales, Australia.

  • William Wentworth (1790-1872), (William Charles Wentworth I) helped discover a way across the Blue Mountains to the west of Sydney, along with Gregory Blaxland and William Lawson. He was also a prominent poet, journalist and politician.
  • William Charles Wentworth II (1827-1859), son of the above.
  • William Charles Wentworth III (1871-1949), nephew of the above and grandson of William Charles Wentworth I.
  • William Wentworth (Australian politician) (1907-2003), (William Charles Wentworth IV), son of the above, was a Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives 1949-77, with a reputation as a fierce anti-Communist.
