William "Will" Avery (born August 8, 1979 in Augusta, Georgia) is an American professional basketball player, currently playing in the Greek league A1 Ethniki for AEK Athens.
Avery, a 6'2" (1.88 m) point guard from Duke University, was selected 14th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 1999 NBA Draft after his sophomore year, when he (along with Elton Brand and Corey Maggette) became one of the first players under Mike Krzyzewski to leave Duke before graduating. He was considered a draft bust, never having lived up to expectations. He averaged 2.7 points and 1.4 assists in 142 games over three seasons for the Timberwolves.
He was not signed by an NBA team when his 3-year contract expired in 2002, and since then, Avery has also played with Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem (Israel), Azovmash Mariupol (Ukraine), Makedonikos Alfa and Panionios BC Athens (Greece), ALBA Berlin (Germany) and Galatasaray Café Crown (Turkey). Avery was released from Galatasaray in October 2007 just three months after signing. He immediately moved to Greece and signed with AEK Athens, his current team.
