William A. Harris (Virginia)

William Alexander Harris (August 24, 1805 - March 28, 1864) was a U.S. Representative from Virginia, father of William A. Harris.

Born near Warrenton, Virginia, Harris completed an academic course. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Luray. He served as member of the State house of delegates in 1830 and 1831.

Harris was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843). He was editor of the Spectator and the Constitution in Washington, D.C.. Chargé d'affaires to the Argentine Republic 1846-1851. He moved to Missouri and later returned to Washington, D.C., editor of the Washington Union and printer to the United States Senate 1857-1859. He died in Pike County, Missouri, March 28, 1864. He was interred in Riverview Cemetery, Louisiana, Missouri.
