Ohman made his major league debut in 2000 and also pitched in 2001, but had elbow surgery in 2002, and recovered from it in the 2002-2003 seasons. In 2004, he pitched for the minor league Iowa Cubs and in the following off-season, he was added to the 40-man roster. On April 26, 2005, he was called up from the minors and on the same day, made his major league first pitching appearance since 2001. Ohman also recorded the Opening Day win for the Cubs on April 2, 2006.

On August 7, 2007, the Cubs optioned Will Ohman to Triple A-Iowa and called up Sean Gallagher to replace him.

Unknown to many, Ohman holds the longest streak since 1957 (and possibly the longest in history) for most consecutive outings without allowing a double, with 65. The streak was snapped on April 29, 2006, when he gave one up to J. J. Hardy.

[edit] Atlanta Braves

On December 4, 2007, Ohman was traded along with Omar Infante to the Atlanta Braves for Jose Ascanio.
