Mellor lived as a child in the Bredbury area of Stockport, Greater Manchester and was the youngest of a family of four older sisters: one named Cheryl, two others, and one disabled sister named Joanne - Mellor features in a 2006 blood donation advert, mentioning his sister's heart surgery.
