PC 543 William Fletcher is a fictional character in the long-running ITV drama The Bill. His callsign was '543'. He is a qualified advanced pursuit driver at Sun Hill. He has been played by Gary Lucy since December 2005. Will is due to transfer to CID in the summer of 2008, as a T/DC.
[edit] Personal life
Will grew up in Hemel Hempstead. He lived with both his parents and also has a sister. He was inspired to join the police by a friend of his father's, who was an Area Car driver in the police force and often told him about his work.
[edit] Previous
Like most others at Sun Hill, he did his training at Hendon. It is not clear where he served his probationary period or indeed how long he has been in the force, but he previously served at Hemel Hempstead and he was later transferred to Sun Hill.
He is a fan of cars and motorcycles and in his spare time he enjoys boxing. When he is injured he is unable to compete in the tournament with PC Dan Casper. However, he stands in his friend's corner for every match and it is he who tries to convince Dan to tell Inspector Gina Gold about his steroid abuse.
He shows strong feelings for his colleague PC Emma Keane and is violently opposed to her marriage to lawyer Matt Hinckley. Despite being beaten up on Emma's wedding day after she reveals to Matt that she slept with Will and being able to prove that Matt had been behind the attack, he turns up at the wedding to wish them well.
He later begins a relationship with PC Honey Harman, but they split up after he refuses to go on holiday with her in Tenerife. Honey is later shot and killed after being held captive by drug barons. Will is devastated at first, having been one of the first on the scene when Honey's body is discovered, but later he comes to terms with her death.
He became close friends with Dan, and the two were frequently seen paired on the beat together until Dan resigned. He will move up to CID soon.
