Wilkes-Barre Area School District is a public school district located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. The district includes the city of Wilkes-Barre as well as smaller surrounding municipalties. As of the 2007-2008 school year, Dr. Jeffrey T. Namey is the district superintendent. James L. Coughlin is currently the largest school in the district housing over 1100 students. Meyers High school houses around 949 students and G.A.R has around 917 students.
