[edit] Location

It is located next to Witter Field, on the opposite side from Piedmont Middle School. Located at 301 Wildwood Ave, the school is within a mile of all schools in the district, with the exception of Beach.

[edit] History

Wildwood was the last Piedmont elementary school to be built, following Havens and Beach, which were both established in the early years of the century, with Havens as the first Piedmont school in 1908 and Beach as the second elementary school in 1913.[1]

Wildwood is the only Piedmont elementary school to not be named after a figure in Piedmont history. Instead, it is named after the street on which the school is located: Wildwood Ave.

[edit] Demographics

The school offers grades kindergarten through fifth grade. With an enrollment of 271 students, it is the smallest elementary school in Piedmont. The current expense of education per average daily attendance (ADA) is $8,919.[2]

The two largest racial groups in the student population are white, which makes up 71 percent, and Asian, which makes up 17 percent. Zero percent of students participate in any free-lunch programs.[2]

Eight percent of students are English learners. Languages spoken at home include the following.[3]

non-English language home language of English learners
Cantonese 64 percent
Mandarin 23 percent
German 5 percent
Spanish 5 percent
Korean 5 percent

[edit] Academics

One hundred percent of Wildwood teachers are credentialed, and the average number of years of teaching experience is 22. The ratio of number of students to number of paraprofessional staff is 23:1.[3]

The website greatschools.net, which reviews schools for their quality and collects statistics and feedback, gave Wildwood a 10 out of 10 for test scores.[4] Parent rating also gave the school a maximum score — five stars — for its academics.[4]

In 2005, the school's API score rose 22 points, from 886 to 908. The state average API score in 2005 was a 709.[5] The average API among PUSD elementary schools in 2005 was 929.[6] While Wildwood's API score was lower than other Piedmont elementary schools, its growth rate was higher than both the state average (20) and the district average (18).[5]

School hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 3:05 p.m., with a shorter day for kindergarteners and variation for grades 1 through 3.[7]
