[edit] History
The original hotel, Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort, was built in 1995, along U.S. Highway 12 (Wisconsin Dells Parkway) due to the new invention of the Indoor Waterpark. The original resort had an average sized waterpark, and a few restaurants. At first, the Wilderness's only indoor waterpark was the New Frontier. Recently that has been carpeted. As the park has been vacated.
A few years later, the hotel expanded its size to accommodate the loads of guests. In 2003 they decided to build a new hotel on Lake Delton. This is now known as The Wilderness on the Lake, complete with an infinity pool and indoor waterpark. With more people coming to the main Wilderness Resort Hotel in the 2000s they once again expanded, built a new waterpark, the "Wild West waterpark", and even another guest lobby. 2004 brought the addition of an outdoor wave pool called the "Great Tsunami." In 2005, they built their tallest slide, a ProSlide Tornado, called the "Hurricane," as well as a ProSlide Cannonbowl. Due to the Tsunami in Southeast Asia, the "Great Tsunami" was renamed "The Great Wave." In 2006, the Glacier Canyon Lodge across a glacial canyon from the original Wilderness Resort hotel. Also, the "Great Wave" was enclosed and two family slides called "Deueling Mammoths" were added to make the Wilderness Resort hotel's third indoor waterpark, called "Wild Water Dome."
Before 2007, all of the Waterparks at the Wilderness Territory were for resort guests only, but then they opened them up to the general public on the off season. Guests in the summer still get exclusive access to the waterparks of the Wilderness territory.
