Will is on a semi-permanent wikibreak, but continues to edit Wikipedia, time permitting. He does check for messages off and on, but e-mail (or a message and an e-mail) might get his attention faster. Will still cares about Wikipedia; however, he just doesn't have much spare time.

[edit] About Me

Willscrlt (talk message contribs page moves deleted contribs summary count total logs block log block email)

I have been using computers since sometime around 1980. My first computer was an Atari 1200XL, followed by an Apple IIgs, then an Apple Macintosh IIci, and then an old and abused Intel 80286-based PC (very briefly until it died). From that point on, I've stayed with MS-DOS and then Windows-based computers. My first online experiences were made using a 1200 baud modem on my Apple IIgs. I was a charter member of America Online (before it became known as AOL), and I became active in the local Bulletin Board System scene. While in college, I was a Sysop of a fairly popular BBS. That introduced me to people who were putting together the first public regional Internet access (later to be known as a community Internet Service Provider). My first professional development experiences involving the Internet were developing gopher pages and later HTML pages for the ISP. Later, I branched out into my own Internet and graphic design business. From there I moved into computer consulting. In early 1999, shortly before the dot.com bubble neared bursting, I relocated to Sacramento to help start an online auction company that lost funding by October of that year. Since then, I have been doing computer network integration and consulting work. I registered for an account at Wikipedia on June 15, 2006. I made a few contributions prior to registering, but I do not remember what or how long ago. For more information about me, you can visit my home page.

[edit] Essays and other Wiki writings

I have a hard time quietly sitting by without speaking out when I see things that I feel deserve some consideration, or even some change. I also sometimes write things that others find helpful. Here are a few of them:

  • Category suppression - How to suppress categories in templates.
  • WikiHumanity - one of the biggest problems I see facing Wikipedia is the imbalance between efficiency and empathy. WikiHumanity is an important key to Wikipedia's success.

[edit] Nominations

  • Nominated to be an administrator
    • Willscrlt (talk · contribs) - Excellent Wikipedian, he is almost entirely responsible for the organization of mixed drinks in a very short interval of time. He has also encouraged and tried to get other wikipedians involved in the project thuglastalk|edits 19:45, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
    • While very honored, I respectfully declined. Since I was involved with so many other projects, I did not feel I would be able to commit enough time to administrative duties and still complete the other projects.

[edit] Articles

By design or by accident, I contributed to the following articles in some meaningful way. I have edited many more pages, but these are ones of which I am especially pleased. The dates listed in reverse chronological order (newest on top) generally by the first date I made significant edits. I've likely made other changes since.

[edit] Licensing of My Submissions

Hello. Sharing, reusing, and building upon prior work is one of the best things about a community like this.

I upload media contributions directly to Wikimedia Commons and/or Flickr. Each media contribution is licensed individually. Some are released into the public domain, most are multi-licensed under GFDL and various Creative Commons licenses, and some on Flickr are fully copyrighted and not freely licensed. Generally, photos of my family and me are restricted. Photos of general interest are usually multi-licensed. A few images I create specifically for wide-scale distribution are released into the public domain. It is therefore important to check the licensing of each media contribution I submit before reusing it.

If you want to use any text or markup from my user pages or other non-media contributions on the English Wikipedia or any other Wikimedia site, go ahead. All non-media contributions made by me are multi-licensed under the licenses listed below.

I do request that if you use any of my biographical information, quotations, or other information about me, please do not quote it out of context, and I'd appreciate the attribution. Thanks!

Please assume that the following statements apply not just this page, but to all my submitted text contributions, unless otherwise specified, on every Wikimedia site.

Licensing rights granted to Wikimedia Foundation
I grant non-exclusive permission for the Wikimedia Foundation Inc. to relicense my text contributions under any copyleft license that it chooses, provided it maintains the free and open spirit of the GFDL. This permission acknowledges that future licensing needs of the Wikimedia projects may need adapting in unforeseen fashions to facilitate other uses, formats, and locations. It is given for as long as this banner remains.
Multi-licensed with Creative Commons Attribution and Attribution Share-Alike Licenses
I further agree to multi-license my text contributions, unless otherwise stated, under the following Creative Commons Attribution and Attribution Share-Alike licences: CC-BY v2.0, v2.5, v3.0; CC-BY-SA v2.0, v2.5, v3.0; CC-BY-NC v3.0; CC-BY-NC-SA v3.0; CC-BY-NC-ND v3.0; CC-BY-ND v3.0; and all future versions of the Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY) and Attribution Share-Alike license (CC-BY-SA), provided such versions maintain the free and open spirit of version 3.0 of the licenses.
Multi-licensed with the GPL, LGPL, and GFDL
I agree to additionally license any of my contributions under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2.0, GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) version 3.0, and later versions of both licenses, provided such versions maintain the free and open spirit of the license versions specified here. Just to be perfectly clear, I also multi-license my work under the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, with no Front-Cover Texts, and with no Back-Cover Texts. The GFDL licensing is implied on Wikipedia, but I wanted to make it explicitly clear.
Public domain Minor edits multi-licensed into the public domain
I agree to multi-license my eligible text contributions marked as minor edits, unless otherwise stated, under the GFDL and into the public domain.
In short, you may incorporate my text contributions, unless otherwise stated, into practically any type of project, commercial or non-commercial, that you like and under whichever license from the preceding that you choose, as long as you give me some sort of attribution for my efforts. Please be aware that other contributors might not do the same, so if you want to use my contributions under alternate licensing or my minor edit contributions in the public domain, please check the CC dual-licence and Multi-licensing guides.
