Sheldon James Martin was born in Martins Ferry OH Jully 23, 1945 from a newspaper background --where he learned the back roads and small towns of Eastern Ohio.
He attended Kent State University where he developed a bleeding ulcer and nearly died at 21. Married in 1969 to Alice M. Tenney, who he referred to as a 'brilliant, straight ahead thinker'; she died in August, 2000, from genetic liver disease. The couple were married for 31 years and had two children.
Martin graduated from Walsh College (now Walsh University) in North Canton, OH with a BA degree in English in 1971. While there, he restared their newspaper, The Spectator with a small staff of three fellow students.
After graduation Martin taught English and journalism in high school.
He later purchased a community newspaper in Dublin, OH (1978-83). After the sale of the newspaper, he established a media merger and acquisition firm (1983-present).
Martin studied philosophy of mind with Geoffrey Klempner (Oxford) through the Int. Society of Philosophers at 55.
He lives in Madison WI.
