[edit] Recent changes
Glossary of climate change now exists. Minor fighting on Global climate change. The consensus paper in Science. Coming soon: Fu and Johanssen.
[edit] Intro
I intend this page a a guide to me (and others) to the structure of the various pages under which climate change, global warming, etc etc appear; and what topics appear in what pages. This in an effort to avoid re-discussing the same things in different places. Its in my userspace, at least for now, because I'm unsure where else it should fit. Perhaps you know better.
Unlike some of my other user pages, you should feel free to edit this one, sanely only of course...
[edit] General climate change
- Global Warming - is an increase over time of the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans. It is generally used to describe the temperature rise over the past century or so, and the effects of humans on the temperature. The more neutral term climate change is usually used to describe previous natural variations. The term may be used to describe theories explaining such an increase or the crisis that many advocates say will arise if no one does anything to prevent such an increase from occurring. (that was the old text before Ed changed it. Sigh. Still I'll leave it here).
- Climate Change - includes natural and anthro change; on all time scales; contains the discussion of various forcing factors.
- Attribution of recent climate change (the moved Anthropogenic global warming) - who/what caused the "recent" (say last 100y) climate change.
- Scientific opinion on climate change - "Various national and international bodies and societies, and individual scientists have expressed opinions on climate change or global warming in the last few decades. This article addresses those opinions." - I'm not too happy about this page at the moment. Related: Global warming controversy; Scientific consensus - hmpf.
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - IPCC; baseline "consensus" for those who believe in it. Also SAR, TAR and AR4.
- related: SRES - not on actual report, just scenarios. Expand?
- Kyoto Protocol - mostly politics. Actual cl ch science should be kept off this page.
- United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - not a science page.
- Martian global warming - speculative nonsense. Article has been simultaneously recommended for merge and deletion.
[edit] People/Orgs
- People: Hermann Flohn, Geoff Jenkins, Brian Hoskins, Jean Jouzel, David King, Michael Mann, John Mitchell, David Parker, Roger A. Pielke, Roger A. Pielke (Jr), Vicky Pope, Gavin Schmidt, Drew Shindell, Simon Tett, John Zillman
- People (not cl ch): Warren White
- Orgs: American Geophysical Union, Climatic Research Unit, CLIVAR, IPCC
[edit] Septics
- SEPP - The Science & Environmental Policy Project - very vocal, essentially a one-man-band prject of Singer.
- CO2science - Taking over the baton from SEPP? But no higher quality.
- Tech central station - another one.
- Sallie Baliunas, Robert Balling, Sherwood B. Idso, Richard Lindzen (*), Patrick Michaels, S. Fred Singer, Willie Soon - miscellaneous septics. Those marked with a (*) deserve their k back.
[edit] Climate and Meteorology
- Climate - only listed here for completeness; not nearly as controversial (or interesting) as climate change. Was mostly about climate classification, but thats now at Köppen climate classification, so Climate is now quite short.
- Meteorology - history of; links; non-controversial.
- Wind, Atmospheric circulation - science. But some overlaps - needs work, or a new page.
[edit] Actual climate/temperature change pages
- Satellite temperature measurements - satellites (and balloons). Since 1979/1958.
- Temperature record -summary article of temperature records generally.
- Historical temperature record - the *historical* period - last 150 ish years. EP has recently created Surface air temperature for no obvious reason.
- Temperature record since 1880 - data from NOAA, graph of temperature and an ordered list of the warmest years. Merge with Historical temperature record?
- Urban heat island - frequently errupts into open warfare.
- Temperature record of the past 1000 years - *proxy* record - the last 1000 years (though it has been pushed a bit further back now)
- Little Ice Age - "mid-14th through mid-19th centuries"
- Medieval climate optimum - "about the 10th century to about the 14th century" - hmmm, do those date ranges overlap?
- Maunder Minimum - relates to LIA - "from 1645 to 1715 A.D"

[edit] "Greenhouse" basics
- Greenhouse gas - apart from fights over water vapour, not too controversial
- Greenhouse effect - ditto, I think
- Carbon dioxide - not controversial at all I think
- CFC - heading off towards Ozone depletion which is not the same things as GW ;-)
- Sunspot - only here for completeness. Not controversial. nb: "solar activity" redirects to sunspot: don't use both!
[edit] Other
- Ozone depletion - not much to do with Cl Ch but attrtacts the same people. Also (currently redirs but may change) ozone hole and ozone depletion theory.
[edit] Comments from co-workers
Dr. C, thanks for creating this page. Rather than editing it with you, I'm going to keep my own (at user:Ed Poor#science for now. But PLEASE point out anything wrong or missing from mine!
On the basis of these two different (and personal) schemas, I'd like to start working on a joint (public) outline. You might take a look at Definitions of global warming. --Uncle Ed 18:36, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- (William M. Connolley 23:20, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)) Hmmm, I never responded to that, I know: mostly because I didn't much like DoGW. Hmmm.

- Thanks. This page is now badly out of date and might be better deleted. I'd forgotten it existed :-) William M. Connolley 22:27, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
