The SSDI lists two Willie Turks, not WILLIAM Turks. The Times sometimes referred to him as Willie. And the SSDI is a more accurate source than the Times. PS - I created this page. Bapples81 00:48, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I was wrong when I said in my edit summary "all the NYTimes references call him William" - some of the Times followup stories about the sentencing and eventual release of his assailants call him Willie. I changed the name to conform to the way it was spelled in the Times stories I used to research the actual crime. William also seemed a more respectful way to list him in the encyclopedia. But I know the SSDI listing will match the name he used when he registered for his Social Security card, and that's probably the way it was on his paychecks, too.
When I started typing this I was going to propose changing the first sentence to

William Turks (February 4, 1948 - June 22, 1982), also known as Willie Turks, was a...

but thinking some more about what the name on a SS card means throughout our whole lives, now I'm more inclined to change it all back to Willie. I'll do that sometime tomorrow. --CliffC 02:36, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
