can someone accurately translate "presented to the living"?

In the Church of England a living is (or maybe was) a church office endowed with fixed capital assets that provide a living. So when the article says that Symonds was "presented to the living," it means that he was installed as the holder of that office. Benami 00:20, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
