Shouldn't this have a note that it was taken directly from Samuel Johnsons' Lives of the English Poets? I thought the language was peculiarly quaint so I googled it. The work is apparantly long out of copyright, but still...

The identical text (minus a few minor changes I made shortly before) appears on this site accredited to Johnson - http://www.hn.psu.edu/Faculty/KKemmerer/poets/king/default.html

Yes it's taken from Johnson I was in the process of modernizing/standarizing it but I got distracted, I'll bring iy up to date later tonight. --Imran 16:48 Oct 28, 2002 (UTC)

[edit] Governor William King Link

This is not the William King who was Governor of Maine from 1820-21 as the link suggests but of a William King who was a poet from London. Could you please get the link straight for us doing research on Governors of Maine for our school children.

[edit] Eep

Yeah, it's Johnsonian with a bit of filtering. I'm going to grab the DNB to see what more can be added. At the same time, taking from SJ isn't a bad idea, as he was an important member of the Christ Church Wits who got forgotten. The pre-2004 DNB, for example, chopped him down.
