[edit] Expansion

I have added several bits of information to this article, taken from four new sources: The Encyclopedia of Frontier Biography by Dan Thrapp, Historical Register and Dictionary of the United States Army by Francis Heitman, Cavalry Yellow and Infantry Blue by Constance Wynn Altshuler, and List of Officers of the Army by William Powell. All but Altshuler are available on the net.

I also removed a dead link to the Home of Heroes website.

[edit] Year of Birth

The year of birth was given as 1836, apparently taken from the Find a Grave website. I have changed this to 1845 based on Altshuler and Thrapp.

[edit] Date of Death and Highest Rank

These were given as January 8, 1892 and second lieutenant, probably based on the inscription on the tombstone pictured on the Find a Grave website. I have changed them to January 8, 1882 and first lieutenant, based on Altshuler, Thrapp, Heitman, and Powell. Heitman and Powell are sourced from War Department records, Altshuler from Allen's widow's pension claim, and Thrapp from the Arizona Star. I have a hunch there was a transcription error when his remains were transfered to SFNC from Fort Mojave.

[edit] Civil War Service

Finally, I added a note of Allen's service in the 29th PA Infantry in the closing months of the Civil War.
