Talk:Wildlife of North Carolina

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is within the scope of WikiProject North Carolina, an effort to create, expand, organize, and improve North Carolina-related articles to a feature-quality standard.
Start This article has been rated as Start-Class on the quality scale.
Top This article has been rated as Top-importance on the importance scale.

The goal of this article is to feature photographs of wildlife and plant-life in North Carolina. There's a lot of wikipedia images of species who live in this state, but it would be nice if all the photos featured on this article are taken locally. Nimur 18:58, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comments

This article needs a stronger intro - should summarize the article. This article should expand to feature more then photographs. This is an encyclopedia so the focus should be on the content that describes the wildlife (to include pictures). Each section will probably be a summary to a main article on a particular area with the article being specific to North Carolina wildlife. Morphh 23:28, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wildlife

I don't consider my addition a comprehensive list of reptile species found in NC, but based on my collection experience in the western part of the state these are some of the most easily found. -MalkavianX 19:49, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures

I'm sorry, but the picture of the bridge has nothing to do with wildlife. The picture of the purple flowers is so blurry, it's useless. The picture of the turkey vulture is not useful: no one looking at that picture would be able to use it for identification. I'm removing these three pictures from the article. ++ Arx Fortis 18:38, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

I disagree on each point; the photograph is of the Nantahalla River, and demonstrates the ecology of the western mountains. The other images are the best available at the present. I encourage you or other editors to upload better photographs instead of removing the current ones. Nimur 18:53, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
I respecfully disagree with your assertion that a bad picture is better than no picture (in regards to the bird and flower pictures). Further, the focus of the bridge picture was just that - the bridge - and made the river an afterthought. I have replaced both the flower picture and the bridge/river picture. I suggest that the turkey vulture should be removed as there are two bird pictures on the page, while none for mammals or reptiles. ++ Arx Fortis 05:18, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
EDIT: Also, I reduced some of the picture sizes because they were crowding. There just isn't enough text yet to space them out. ++ Arx Fortis 05:35, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
In any case, I encourage you to actively contribute content (text, images, corrections). Thanks for working on this article. I'll try to make time to contribute as well. Nimur 06:04, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
