[edit] Comments
While I have a few comments, this is very good and will be quite helpful to readers of the various Jane Austen (sub)articles. Simmaren (talk) 15:02, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

- I would eliminate Hastings de Feuillide. He is the only member of his generation to appear and (sadly) his relative importance doesn't justify it.
- Is it worth including a note that the charts can be viewed at a larger scale by clicking on them?
- Typos:
-
- The dates for Tysoe Saul Hancock (level 2) should be: (d. 1775)
- The dates for Leonora (level 2) should be: (1732-1783)
- Dates should be added for Elizabeth (level 2): (1761-1813)
- Edit:
-
- Elizabeth (level 2) is known to all the world except genealogists as "Eliza," the name she preferred for herself. I suggest that her name be shown as: Eliza (Elizabeth)
- Graphics and layout:

- Generally very clear and well organized. Two suggestions:
-
- Jane Austen's name should be highlighted in some manner so that the reader's eye is drawn to her name immediately and can see how she is situated in context. Perhaps this can be accomplished through color (name and dates, something vivid) or bolding/double underlining (name only)
- If Hastings is to remain, his name should be put on a lower level and the line between his name and Eliza's should be longer. Right now, he seems to be a member of Jane's generation (level 3) rather than the next. Because this would make the chart bigger, it justifies removing his name.
I've made the changes per the comments above. I bolded Jane's name, but I don't think that makes it stand out enough. I've fiddled with couple of options; putting her name in a box, or increasing the font size, look a little crass to me. I think maybe underlining would be the best option. Colour is probably not the best choice because of colour-blind readers. I could also put her name in italics, or capitalize it, or some combination. Take a look and see what you think. I could also send you the underlying Powerpoint file and let you try different options in Powerpoint and send it back to me for uploading -- would that work? - Re clicking on the charts: I don't think this should be noted on the chart itself. Pointing it out in the caption is an article editing decision. I think I would not do that, partly because readers learn that pretty quickly, and it would seem superfluous to most readers of Wikipedia. Mike Christie (talk) 18:08, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Let's try bold/underline for "Jane" - we needn't do more. Thanks for the needed reminder of the issue of color-blindness. Simmaren (talk) 23:19, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- We will have confidence in WP readers and omit the "click here" neon sign. ;) Simmaren (talk) 23:19, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Jane is now underlined and bolded -- let me know if you need anything else done to the tree. Mike Christie (talk) 01:23, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
