Wikiwix is a multilingual Web search engine operated independently from Wikimedia. It gives only results out of Wikipedia's database. Wikiwix is not a wiki as the name would suggest.
Wikiwix has been officially installed on the internal Wikipedia search engines on some Wikipedias in 2007, including Google, Yahoo and others. The German Wikipedia has included it in mid-2007. The English Wikipedia does have a link towards Wikiwix on its page Special:Search.
Features include many texts, images and geographical search for maps called "atlas" (the latter by selecting graphical maps) in 13 languages (Arabic, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Interlingua, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish).
The logo pictures a kiwi bird which is picking food off the ground and the motto is "the ultimate Wikipedia articles search". The search engine is operated by Linterweb based in Val-de-Reuil, France (8 employees), which also is the publisher of the DVD Wikipedia v0.5 in 2007 (see History of Wikipedia).
