[edit] Excellent idea

Thank you Mangwanani for starting this WikiProject. Perspicacite 21:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Pleasure. I thought we needed one and it brings all the articles needing work together and in one place. Mangwanani 16:34, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] IMPORTANT NOTE

If you start a new Zimbabwe related article please make sure that {{WikiProject Zimbabwe}} is added to the top of the talk page so that it can be covered in our scope. Many thanks. Mangwanani 16:58, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

With the proliferation of national WikiProjects, even one for Austria-Hungary, 90 years gone, would there be enough interest to justify such a project as this?

You might want to check with the proposed Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Eastern Africa group first. Personally, it seems to me that there may be more editors with interests in Europe than Africa, and that might be why the Austria-Hungary project exists. It might be a better idea to create the larger group first, and then, when it is known whether there is enough interest, to create task forces of that larger group. Badbilltucker 15:45, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
The Austria-Hungary project appears to be inactive. Since you want to deal with pre-1980, such a project can also be part of WP Former countries. - 52 Pickup 20:08, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Given the small number of users involved and the similarity (continuity, really) of the topics, can the Zimbabwe project not also encompass pre-1980 Zimbabwe? It doesn't make sense to just focus on post 1980 articles, as the present is incoherent without a solid documentation and understanding of the past. After all, tomorrow is not another country. • I like it. If there are any more ideas for Zimbabwe-related Userboxes, contact me on my Talk page, and if there are enough I will add another page to the WikiProject Zimbabwe Navigation where others can access these Userboxes. Mangwanani 16:17, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

Hi, my name is Joe and I have just created the Bulawayo South article. I am trying to create a comprehensive guide to Zimbabwe's constituencies and any help or sources you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

[edit] Political parties

Been going through a bit and ZANU is in a mess, I mean here, before anyone gets ideas on POV. There are three sites ZANU, ZANU (PF) and ZANU (Ndonga). All 3 have sections on the war and period pre Mugabe/Sithole split. I am suggesting ZANU as a master article covering only the foundation and war years in detail and then linking to ZANLA, ZANU (PF) and ZANU (Ndonga). The latter two articles should then simply refer to the former one for earlier history. How does that sound?

All 3 articles have the bizarre claim that Ndonga is a Ndebele party and ZANU and ZANU (Ndonga) have no citations, nor does ZANLA. Babakathy 22:46, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rating

Should we begin rating the articles within our scope as most other WikiProjects do? Mangwanani 19:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Constituency

Has anyone seen the Bulawayo South article I created, I haven't gotten any feedback yet. I'm going to start working on more constituencies soon and any help would be appreciated. -- Joe 15:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Forgive the directness but can you tell me the result of the 1965 Rhodesian election in Bulawayo South? You know, the election which I have already researched but haven't written the Wikipedia page for yet so it's not available online but only by finding the Rhodesia Herald in a real life library. [edit] Great Job

Great job Mangwanani on this one. mangqina-Mazondo 04:01, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA policy

I posted Frederick Russell Burnham to the WikiProject Zimbabwe GA section, and it was removed with the following comment: its still only nominated for good article status. until it becomes a GA it cannot be listed here."

But the instructions for this section say:

"The following articles have either been recognized as good articles or are currently under review for good article status.

The Burnham article is currently under GA review.

Either the instructions are wrong or the article should be returned to the GA War and military category. -- Ctatkinson 11:00, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for restoring the article. -- Ctatkinson 00:42, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rhodesian Air Services

I have added a few lines to this entry. I have reservations about the line which states that the Vilanculos route was transferred in 1962 - I distincly recall going on a Rhodesian Air Service DC-3 to there in 1965. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Simonwoollard (talkcontribs) 20:15, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA announcement

Frederick Russell Burnham obtained GA status today. Hurray!!! The GA reviewer commented that it is already a very good article and, for FA, he suggests suggest more on Burnham's non-military work. Many thanks for everyone's contributions to-date. It sounds like we can bring it to FA with only a bit more work. Further input and peer review here would be much appreciated. Let's give the team a big hurrah!!! -- Ctatkinson 19:04, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Stub template

Just a heads-up: the template {{Zimbabwe-ethno-group-stub}} is up for deletion as it has only been used on one article. This just means that stub articles about ethnic groups in Zimbabwe would be re-sorted into the general ethnic groups in Africa stub category. If your project tags 30+ articles with the Zimbabwe type, there's a good chance we can keep it. Cheers, Her Pegship (tis herself) 19:46, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Salisbury

Somebody is trying to claim that "Salisbury" should redirect to Salisbury, United Kingdom rather than Harare, as though S-UK is more notable. Put this on your watchlist - the guy is really persistent in trying to push this view. Perspicacite 19:16, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPRhodesia

I have started a Rhodesian WikiProject for all who are more interested in Rhodesian articles. It can be found here. Mangwanani 16:21, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Rhodesia

A user has posted a lengthy copy and paste of policies on Talk:Rhodesia to a point I would consider spamming. Does anyone mind if I remove/revert the posts? Perspicacite 07:53, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

I mind.

You revert too much. You need to consider editing in a co-operative manner rather than reverting. Please read what you call "spam". It is actually policy.

In your latest revert today at Rhodesia, amongst other ignorant edits you

  1. re-introduced a redlink of sodium coumadin sic
  2. removed the valid piped link in "the toxin Sodium Coumadin (an anti-coagulant commonly used as the active ingredient in rat poison)"
  3. linked (without good reason) 1969, 1965, 1979, 1987 contrary to WP:MOSNUM
  4. introduced typos/spelling mistakes (at least in the WP:ENGVAR the article is written in {eg replacing "As the Bush War got under way," with "As the Bush War got underway,"})
  5. restored the double linking of ZANU and ZAPU as in "the military wing of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU), and ZIPRA, the military wing of the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU),"
  6. replaced "The defunct State was landlocked and located in southern Africa." with "The country is landlocked and located in southern Africa." Do you not realise that the article is about a political entity that ceased to exist in the last century?
  7. completely lost the explanatory clause "First Chimurenga " was the name given to the Second Matabele Warthat began in 1896)" - not for the first or even second or even third destructive revert!
  8. replaced "Rhodesia was known as Southern Rhodesia, a self-governing colony of the British Empire, prior to 1964." with "The British Empire ruled over the self-governing colony of Southern Rhodesia prior to 1964."

ALL without consensus or discussion on the article's talk page and all on the day that you returned from being blocked for WP:3RR for exactly this type of ignorant, non-consensual revert and with a mendacious edit summary of "(rv. Keeping the few good changes made.)" What exactly were the "good changes made" from "your version" that you preserved?

When are you going to learn to edit rather than mindlessly and irritatingly revert? Alice.S 09:21, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shona Population Figures

In the Wiki entry on the Shona people, the info box in the upper right of the page lists their total population at 13 million, while the second line of the actual article states that there are about 9 million. I left it unedited, partly because I have no idea what the number is, and partly because I think the author may have meant to say "about 9 million in Zimbabwe", with the remainder largely in Mozambique, but it does not state this. If anyone current on Southern African demographics could address this you have my thanks71.142.67.174 (talk) 00:57, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Kevin D.

[edit] Boy Scouting and Girl Guiding in pre1979 Rhodesia

Hello everyone! I am trying to write a history of Boy Scouting and Girl Guiding in pre1979 Rhodesia. Right now both are stubs at The_Boy_Scouts_Association_of_Zimbabwe and at Girl_Guides_Association_of_Zimbabwe. Please help me fill in some blanks. The present period is also spotty, but I would like to ask for

1) photographs of Scouts or Scout events before 1979 (scans are fine, not the originals, those are important to you)

2) photos of badges or emblems from either organization. Particularly needed is the 1964-1979 fleur-de-lis badge, I've only seen one at a distance, it might have a mountain on it.

3) history or information on membership, activities, rank structure, public service, and any Rhodies of note who were Scouts or Guides

4) anything else you can think of that would make either article better, right now you can see they are both lacking, the Scouts being more developed than the Guides just for availability of information

Thank you so much! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 00:39, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Proposal to consolidate African country WikiProject banners

Template:AfricaProject was recently modified, and now contains individual parameters for all countries in Africa (see usage notes). Since project-specific assessment for all African countries can now be accomplished through the template, a proposal has been made at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Africa to consolidate all individual African country WikiProject banners.

Comments or suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you, Black Falcon (Talk) 23:30, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 14:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
