[edit] 8bitJake and 8bitjoystick.com

Many recent edits by the user "8bitjake" appear to be designed to drive traffic to his blog. He regularily makes uncited, NPOV claims. It appears that he is using Wikipedia in order to drive traffic to his blog.

For instance, today, he has made a post which you can read here [1]

The blog post says things such as;

"I mean come on guys. If your going to edit Wikipedia for PR purposes at least don't do it from a computer that is going to register as a Microsoft IP. If there are anyone at Microsoft PR reading this tell the user at the IP "131.107.0.73" that they need to be a little more discrete about their removal and alteration of a heavily controversial article such as "Xbox 360 technical problems". The Wikipedia user edited the article at work on a Microsoft.com network on 2007-08-03 and 2007-08-02. They have also made several edits on a variety of articles so I doubt that this user is a press relations agent. I don't think it's a deliberate conspiracy but the appearance of a conflict of interest is there."

For starters, 131.107.0.73 is clearly a proxy of some kind -- just look at the variety / frequency of chnages. Clearly not a single person.

Further, what are the content of Microsoft's edits?

"a warranty length cover all Xbox 360s sold." became " a warranty length covering all Xbox 360s sold"

"Xbox 360, that could cause a" became "Xbox 360 which could cause"

"It should also be noted that voiding the warranty by opening the system will prevent a user from ever being able to send in the console to an authorized service centre"

became

"Opening the system manually will void the warranty, preventing a user from being able to send in the console to an authorized service center"

"in use; which" became "in use, which"

"However it should be noted that there have been many reports of such devices doing exactly the opposite" became "However, reports indicate that such devices are doing exactly the opposite"

"However this extended warrranty only covers the 'General Hardware Failure' fault, all other faults" became "However, this extended warranty only covers the 'General Hardware Failure' fault, and all other faults"

Thats it. That is all the changes. Now, does the blog post sound at all accurate? It seems very purposefully designed to misrepresent the situation.

This blog post has been picked up by the Gaming News world, and now can be seen here [2] as well as many other places to be certain.

8bitjake's Blog Post will now be picked up and reported widely. Then, he will proably wish to include this blog-post (And the 2nd posts) and argue for inclusion (as he did with a couple previous blogposts.

His method has been: 1) make blog post 2) wait for news outlets to repeat it 3) include it in wikipedia 4) Traffic (profit)!

I HIGHLY recommend that Wikipedians -- and especially members of the Xbox Project -- be very careful to monitor the activities of this user.

It is my reasonsed opinion that he is using Wikipedia to provide credibility and traffic for his blog. Wageslave (talk) 18:48, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I would appreciate some help watching the edits made by 8bitjake to the Xbox 360 Technical problems page.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems you'll note that he is using that page to repeat blog posts he makes himself.
Wageslave (talk) 21:30, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I do think that Wageslave is acting like he owns that article and is not acting in good faith. He constantly has been insulting, obsessive, hostile and petty and I am this close to reporting his negative actions to the admins. He is acting like a rabid fanboy rather than an objective editor.

Here are some of the things that I wrote on the Discussion page

"Actually if you go back and read the review and articles that I’ve written over the years about Xbox 360 you will see that I have plenty of good things to say about the system. You are not my headshrink and shouldn’t knee jerk assume what others think about the topic at hand. Again there are many editors on Wikipedia and no single editor *owns* any article.

Actually I don’t need any traffic and traffic from Wikipedia is way less than 0.5% of my referral traffic. I’ve gotten several hundred times the traffic from Digg, Joystiq, Kotaku, Engadget. But it's a moot point since I've allready been established as a credible source on this topic by other media sources such as Joystiq.

Destructive editing is systematically undoing or deleting someone else’s contributions in bad faith without discussion or a consensus of all editors involved.

My edits are based on the facts that I know, not opinions but facts."

". I don't feel like your insults and calling me a "Blogtroll" is NPOV. Should we open a moderation review on you, I don't feel like your editing in good faith, try not to be so obsessive about this article, we are all equal editors. I am not anti-Microsoft and in fact I have several friends that work there. That is why my reporting is considered to be a reputable source by Joystiq.com, Kotaku.com, Newsweek and the Seattle PI and many more. My claims are based on information that comes from inside the Xbox team actually. The video game industry already regards my work as credible, thats why it gets reported. Wageslave you really should try and reach a consensus through discussion before engaging in any further destructive editing."

"Try to Avoid Destructive Editing I am not going to name names but everyone should try to avoid further destructive or disparaging editing of others work. Destructive editing is systematically undoing or deleting someone else’s contributions in bad faith without discussion or a consensus of all editors involved. We should all follow the editing rules. Also try to avoid attacking other editors and avoid use weasel words. Remember no one editor owns any article and let’s try to work together without having to being Admins involved.

--8bitJake (talk) 00:34, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Also I bet you all twenty bucks that Wageslave is n4user1 [3] They cover the same topics and say almost the same thing using almost the same phrases. --8bitJake (talk) 00:48, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

It's clear that this is a edit dispute between the two of you. I appreciate the concerns you both brought up to the project. We will keep an eye out for them, but I would appreciate you both moving your dispute to another talk page. You both stated what we should watch and thats all we need to know. Regards DJS--DJS24 (talk) 02:55, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fatal Inertia

Can you guys take a sec to work on it.--Playstationdude (talk) 19:21, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't know much about it, but what's wrong?. What needs to be worked on? --DJS24 (talk) 22:33, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Just seems short of info for a game already out. The sad thing is that I was excited about it, but it never had a PS3 release, so I don't really know a story or anything.--Playstationdude (talk) 15:41, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I'll start working on it. BW21.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 19:18, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Xbox 360 technical problems

Have asked project editors to respond to see if article can be removed from "articles to fix". --DJS24 (talk) 16:40, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

I think it could still use some touching up but yea, go ahead and remove it. xenocidic (talk) 02:48, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
The article has serious issues IMHO. It is littered with uncredible and uncited "facts". It is littered with accusations and bias. The article needs much work, and more balance and a neutral-POV established.
Wageslave (talk) 03:13, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
OK, I'll re-list it under "Tasks", and I'll start working on tommorrow. Thanks for your responses. DJS --DJS24 (talk) 03:39, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Honstly I think that Wageslave has an axe to grind and dosen't like to hear that there might be any technical problems with the Xbox 360. I think he has been editing like he owns the article and has not been editing in good faith.--8bitJake (talk) 06:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gamerscore userbox

Thought you guys might like this,

This user's gamerscore is (value).

This user's gamerscore is (value) and their completion percentage is (optional)%.

use {{User:Xenocidic/Gamerscore|enter gamerscore here|enter completion value(optional)}} to add this to your userpage (who's using it?)

Enjoy! xenocidic (talk) 14:41, 25 March 2008

Nice job, might be hard to keep up with though. AP Shinobi (talk) 14:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I update mine every once in a while. I'm a bit of a gamerscorewhore ;>. xenocidic (talk) 20:11, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
It would be nice if you could incorporate a way to make the GS update itself, might be a bit tough though. AP Shinobi (talk) 00:28, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
That's definitely beyond my area of expertise, but feel free to tinker with it as you wish. xenocidic (talk) 00:32, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ring of LifeLight and colloquial terms

Colloquialisms are not Wikipedia worthy. Goto the page on "Vagina" and see how many times the word "vagina" is replaced by popular slang terms.

"Ring of death" or "ring of doom" should be removed completely from all these pages.

Wageslave (talk) 16:40, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

You mean ring of "light" ? I think mention of the term does have a place on Xbox 360 technical problems as it is commonly referred to as the RROD. heck, BSOD, has it's own article, even (Blue screen of death). xenocidic (talk) 17:14, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
It's "Ring of Light" - and I do think it should be mentioned in the article. Even though it's not the offical name, I call it the 'Ring of Light". If you take it out, what would you call the problem? I mean, the article/people refer to that problem a lot and most of the time they call it the "Ring of Light". --DJS24 (talk) 20:04, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
I believe the "Ring of Light" phase should be mentioned, as it is called that by millions of Xbox 360 users. Wages, you are correct, that is not the correct saying of the problem, however most people are under the assumption that it is. NOAH! --Noah Baurer (talk) 21:18, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

If you can’t read between the lines Wageslave is continuing his bizarre holy war on any mention of technical problems with the Xbox 360. He is complaining about the wording of the phrase and then going to use that as an excuse to cut any problems that mention it.

I’ll have to send an email off the Xbox marketing team as ask them what phase they use and if they ever colloquially use the term Red Ring of Death. They do call the part the Ring of Light however the error message from a "General Hardware Fault" is refered to as the Red Ring of Death.--8bitJake (talk) 21:47, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] We should consider Request for Arbitration case against Wageslave

I wonder if we should start an Request for Arbitration case against Wageslave. It is obvious that he is not editing in good faith, or is even remotely willing to work with others and is frequently hostile and insulting to other editors. I think his constant angry demagoguing and edit wars are a negative influence on all of the articles related to the Xbox 360. Personally I think an Request for Arbitration case should be opened requesting he be banned from all Xbox related articles. Really he should just start his own Wiki or Blog where he is the only editor if he constantly refuses to work with other editors.--8bitJake (talk) 02:33, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I would, viewing the history, I see that he's been very difficult around this issue. It's clear that he doesn't care about other user's views. However, I would wait to hear from other users of the project before taking action. NOAH!--Noah Baurer (talk) 14:28, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
I am in full support of this arbitration, especially with his "see no evil, hear no evil" edits he carried out recently throughout the weekend of March 29, 2008. He was this difficult when the hardware problems surfaced to the public as of June 2007. Dibol (talk) 05:29, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't think an Arbitration is needed, his edits seem to be in good faith. However, 8bitJake, you have been dealing with him, so I would say the descision is up to you. If you believe one is needed, then I'll leave that up to you. None of the members of the project but you have been dealing with him, so I can't see how any of our inputs are needed. DJS--DJS24 (talk) 15:52, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Xbox Articles

We need to start going through Xbox articles and rating them as to what ones need improving. I noticed we're getting low with articles that need improvement and I sure there are tons of articles that need work. NOAH! --Noah Baurer (talk) 15:28, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I've ask Noah to post this request here instead of on my talk page, so maybe some other project members can contribute. Thanks DJS --DJS24 (talk) 15:53, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion on Xbox 360 Cancelled page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_cancelled_Xbox_360_games

I've made a few notes on the discussion page. If we could see some input/discussion on Ghost, Champions Online (formerly Marvel Online Universe) and Haze (for the Xbox 360).

Thanks all.

[edit] Call of Duty Vandalism

Try and watch for vandalism on the Call of Duty Series page, it has been getting vandalised alot lately. AP Shinobi (talk) 14:17, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I know a lot about the series, so I will keep a eye out for it.--Noah Baurer (talk) 19:55, 7 April 2008 (UTC) NOAH!
Yeah, according to the vandals, there will be aliens in COD5. xenocidic (talk) 20:10, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I can't believe all the vandal I'm finding on ALL the Call of Duty articles. I see you two have also been busy removing vandalism too. NOAH!--Noah Baurer (talk) 20:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes - I have noticed several vandals on these pages, I'll watch them as well. I've been so busy w/ another situation that I haven't had much to review xbox articles. Thanks DJS --DJS24 21:31, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Watch out for a repeat IP vandal replacing "Call of Duty" with "Cock of Duty". I'll try and revert thins whenever I can. And ya Noah, I try and revert vandalism before school each day AP Shinobi (talk) 00:27, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] We need a new logo

Something that isn't a derivative work. Any artists in the fold? xenocidic (talk) 17:58, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Did they give a main reason for deleting the logo? I couldn't find the link to the deletion report. That's ashame, Thiing did a great job in designing this one. By any chance, did anyone contact him to make another one? NOAH! --Noah Baurer (talk) 20:30, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
YES - if anyone knows how to make a nice logo, please feel free to make one. DJS --DJS24 21:21, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Xbox 360 is a "Good article" again

Great work anyone who helped out on this one. We achieved "Good article" status (again). xenocidic (talk) 00:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Nice achievement, good job guys! AP Shinobi (talk) 01:03, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Remove GoW2 From The List

I suggest we remove GoW2 from the expand task list, it is looking good right now. AP Shinobi (talk) 11:35, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Agreed - but I suggest we start finding some more articles that need work. DJS --DJS24 23:29, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I'll remove GoW2 from the list, and start looking for new Xbox Articles needing improvement. AP Shinobi (talk) 14:05, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Assessment Scale

Just to let all WikiProject Xbox members that we have recently created an assessment system. That means that members will be able to assess all Xbox-related articles themselves. You can see the assessment on the talk page box on the talkpage. PLEASE view our assessment page to learn how assess pages. It is very easy if you know how to. You can see a similar system on WikiProject VG's talk page boxes. Soon there will be a assessment statistics box at the bottom of the page. BW21. --BlackWatch21 01:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Just remember that articles need not always have the same assessment and priority on different scales, i.e. whereas the VGProject might call it a "medium" importance, there is nothing wrong with our project calling it "High" importance. xenocidic (talk) 22:27, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Correct because to Wikiproject Xbox a game article may be very important but to the VG project ,which is more general, it may be less important. That's becuase the VG project has many articles that are important. BW21. --BlackWatch21 00:21, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
P.S. If you want to put medium, you have to put mid. BW21. --BlackWatch21 00:22, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Please go here and voice support to keep it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_Gears_of_War_characters_and_adversaries

Thank-you.

The nomination for deletion has been widthdrawn. AP Shinobi (talk) 14:17, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] CoD5 Removed From "Expand" List

I removed CoD5 from the Expand list because it has all the info on it that is available that does not make Wiki a cyrstal ball. It should be re-added to the list once the game is released, but I see no further need of expansion until then. AP Shinobi (talk) 14:14, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Agreed - DJS --DJS24 22:35, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Save Arby!

Arby 'n' the Chief is being requested for speedy deletion, it is a good article that shows the effect Halo has had on American culture. Please vote to keep! AP Shinobi (talk) 14:19, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Somewhat critical task: List of cooperative games for the Xbox 360

Great article, but presently all the descriptions are copy and pasted from Xbox.com - this needs to be rectified as soon as possible. The descriptions could be taken from the article pages for each game. xenocidic (talk) 03:00, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll get to work on some of them as soon as I can. I'll report back when I'm done. AP Shinobi (talk) 18:59, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Done =) AP Shinobi (talk) 20:25, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hello WikiProject Xbox

I would like to offer you an invitation to please review this RFC and make comment. There is a campaign to harass me from editing, and I believe my edits are being misrepresented. If you have a moment, can you please have a look.

Thank-you. Wageslave (talk) 00:11, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I ask whoever reads that article to really spend time reviewing it and comment on their experiences with wageslave.--Playstationdude (talk) 21:02, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I really dont have time to do that, but you can if you want or anyone else. Just send me a message and I'll send you info. BW21.--BlackWatch21 20:17, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
