[edit] Qualifications for inclusion
Right now, both Category:People from Wisconsin and List of people from Wisconsin are limited to people born in the state. I think that this is a good thing, since it gives a set definition for inclusion which doesn't take too much research to figure out.
But there are some notable citizens of the state who simply were born somewhere else. Laurel Clark, astronaut who died in Columbia, was born in Iowa but moved to Racine in her childhood and considered it her hometown. The Ringling Brothers were also born in Iowa. Edna Ferber was born in Michigan but moved to Wisconsin as a child. And so on.
I believe that a list, something like Notable Wisconsin citizens not born in Wisconsin would be a good way of dealing with these people. Any other ideas? --BaronLarf 14:58, August 3, 2005 (UTC)
- Discussion on Wikipedia:Categories for discussion pretty much endorses the idea that if someone lives somewhere a significant time they are "from" a place. CFD doesn't like parallel "people living in X" and "natives of X" categories. I think this reflects the way we talk except in a couple of native-sensitive places like Florida and Texas. --Dhartung | Talk 10:13, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
