Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. [edit] WV TPK Exit Guide

I revamped the West Virginia Turnpike Exit Guide, but how should I go about adding in the toll plaza, service plaza, and rest area information? Perhaps an amendment can be made to the exit guide template? But I'm not sure on how to go about doing that. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 16:11, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the WVint templates weren't coded for the purpose of being used to design exit lists - only junction lists (believe me, when I came up with the now-standard coding, I attempted to add exit list functionality into it, but it failed miserably). For the exit lists, we should probably use WP:IH/ELG instead. Even though this is the guide for Interstates, some states (NJ and NY, and possibly more) use it as well. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Ugh. It looks ugly at New Circle Road too. I think that I'll revert the WVTPK page back to the way it was... and use that template for other interstate pages within my range? It looked really nice. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 21:32, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

I reverted and updated the list. It looks MUCH nicer in this manner, so perhaps someone can make a template out of it for use elsewhere? I think that a convention and ruleset would need to be agreed upon. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 00:55, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Exit list format

I think that this would be good to standarise as a template and use on other pages. Here is the sample: WV TPK Exit Guide.

It's split between Exit, Road, Destination, and Notes. For non-mileage-based exit states, perhaps a note such as: "This state does not conform to MUTCD exit signage standard. Exit numbers are sequential with the milepost indicated beneath it in italics." This way, another column that introduces clutter solely for milepost would not be needed since it would be duplication for the vast majority of pages.

Blue: Rest areas/service plazas Lgt red: Toll plazas Bright red: Restrictions Yellow: Information

Not bad. A note though: this would not apply to Interstates, as those use the exit list guide prescribed by WP:IH. For state highways, this format could work, although I'm not sure if I, or with the help of others, can create a template flexible yet concise enough to serve this purpose. [edit] Attack on Roads of Charleston, West Virginia.. again

See: Roads of Charleston, West Virginia. Not satisfied with screwing up the redirects to it, the IPuser is suggesting it be merged. Can you imagine the page of roads being squished into an already lengthy city page? I left him a warning on his user page about his redirect screwup, but let's nip this one in the bud and vote to decline. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 00:59, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Routes missing shields

When I created SVGs for every state route, I used {{WV Highways}} to determine what state routes existed and, thus, needed shields. I have since realized that the template was incomplete and that a number of routes are still missing shields. Does anyone know where I can find some sources for the route lengths? I've looked all over, only to come up empty. Any ideas? --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 23:28, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

The WV highway map put out by the state has segment lengths (usually distances between cities or intersections). It can be tedious, but you should be able to consider it oficial. Plus, I am pretty sure that simple addition does not count as WP:OR. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 00:34, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. [edit] To be bold or to not be bold...

...and yes, my English class just read Hamlet. As of right now, using the {{WVint}} subtemplates (WVint/WV, etc) results in a boldface link being produced. This was a carryover from WP:NYSR, where the boldface was introduced to make reading the-then list in the infobox (Routeboxny, not infobox road) easier. After seeing the table be constructed on West Virginia Route 114 without boldfaced links, it makes me wonder if the boldface text is still necessary. After all, the boldface isn't used in exit lists. [edit] Reminder from USRD

In response to a few issues that came up, we are giving a reminder to all state highway wikiprojects and task forces:

  1. Each project needs to remain aware of developments at WT:USRD and subpages to ensure that each project is aware of decisions / discussions that affect that project. It is impossible to notify every single project about every single discussion that may affect it. Therefore, it is the state highway wikiproject's responsiblity to monitor discussions.
  2. If a project does not remain aware of such developments and complains later, then there is most likely nothing USRD can do about it.
  3. USRD, in most to nearly all cases, will not interfere with a properly functioning state highway wikiproject. All projects currently existing are "properly functioning" for the purposes mentioned here. All task forces currently existing are not "properly functioning" (that is why they are task forces). Departments of USRD (for example, MTF, shields, assessment, INNA) may have specific requirements for the state highway wikiprojects, but complaints regarding those need to be taken up with those departments.
  4. However, this is a reminder that USRD standards need to be followed by the state highway wikiprojects, regardless of the age of the wikiproject.
