[edit] Yay! We exist!

I would like an official userbox, was one ever settled on? And while "Devil May Cry Task Force" is our official name, I nominate "Team WikiDevil" as our nickname. :) Sorry for the silly first post, but I'm just glad this is getting going. --Boradis 00:48, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Yup, we are finally a reality, I have some proto boxes on my user page so there's not much to do besides a copy-paste into a template page, say can you do that I will take five now, writting all this has gotten me hungry, Cheers! to all that lended us a hand in this journey. -DDF 00:54, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Here are DDF's proto UserBoxes. I've tweaked them by adding links to the TaskForce front page.

I'll deal with the template soon, I have also informed all other members about the grand opening, there are still some typos on the main project page, but it all looks great. -DDF 01:22, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Should we have me, or anyone else, make user subpages of the boxes so that there is just one, nice template to put on the user page? The main page looks great BTW. Peace, -- The Hybrid 03:08, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks that's really good to hear, there's a lot of hard work there :), about the UBXS I asked for help on that since I haven't ever made a template my request was on Wikipedia:Requested templates but it seems no one is listening to it, oh well *sigh* --DDF 03:26, 27 2007 (UTC)

I was about to post that but I found you already did the work a million thanks for that. -DDF 03:30, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I put them at User:The Hybrid/DMCBox1 and User:The Hybrid/DMCBox2. Peace, -- The Hybrid 03:25, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What Next?

Which article should we focus on? Devil May Cry? Devil May Cry 3? The main series page or the Soundtracks page? My vote goes for Devil May Cry, though I'll probably be taking a small break (at least from DMC-related articles) after all the work I had to do with the DMC2 page. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 03:20, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Note:I know nothing about DMC. I am just here because I figured that it was popular enough to benefit from a project, so I supported its creation, and I don't feel like withdrawing as a member. Don't expect me to do anything but revert vandalism, fix grammar, and support in technical issues. Peace, -- The Hybrid 03:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Fine by me. Your contributions are still more than welcome. And I've requested an edit to the CVG template, to allow us to tag articles as being supported by the Devil May Cry task force. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 03:32, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
That's exactly what we need a enforcer to keep vandals at bay. My choices would be Devil May Cry , Dante (Devil May Cry) and the Soundtracks page, let's see what other members think. DDF 03:35, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
About time you get this up and running DDF..hi hi hi. I have to agree with you guys. Lets start from the beginning of Devil May Cry with the first game. Heat P 12:01, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, I've done a fair amount of work on the Devil May Cry article. I'm confident we can get it up to the level of the Devil May Cry 2 article by the weekend. The only remaining work to be done is adding more refs (and formatting the current refs per WP:CITET), the plot summary could be expanded, and the Reception portion could be expanded. I'm hunting for topical screenshots now. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 16:54, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Devil May Cry is looking great, it might be Good Article witin a few days. --DDF 02:00, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lord do I sound like a broken record...

I've significantly redone the DMC series Navbox. It's compact enough that it's likely to satisfy AMIB, but links to everything relevant to the series including the Manga and Soundtracks. Take a look and comment, guys. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 04:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Compact and smooth looking, I like it. -DDF 04:48, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

And it's been changed. Currently there's plenty of room for the upcoming Anime and Movie, and we could probably fit another five or six games into the mix without causing the text to wrap even on smaller resolutions. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 14:27, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] To-do list

Okay people we need to develop a to-do list for the task force, please comment on what you think should be there here. -DDF 02:00, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, DMC1 and DMC2's articles look good so far. About the rest of the articles, I think we could combine all the DMC Soundtrack articles into one (Take this for example: List of Strawberry Panic! albums). Other than that, there's the DMC3 and DMC4's article (This one maybe it's not the time to work with yet, we can hardly make something better that what we already have until the game is released), and there is the Characters Articles, Characters in Devil May Cry, Dante (Devil May Cry), Vergil (Devil May Cry) and Sparda. So far, I think that the main problem with the Character articles is the lack of references or sources.
Am I missing something? --Alexlayer 04:04, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not really sure (to sleepy) but I think we should put the improvement of the character pages to GA as a priority, the game pages aren't as urgent, the only one that really needs work now is DMC3, cause Devil May Cry will be nominated for Good Article as soon as Lankybugger rewrites the plot as he said he would and the gameplay section is extended a little, so no worries there. -DDF 04:16, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Maybe you're right about the Soundtracks, Alex. I'll take a run at unifying the articles now. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 13:46, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Update: The Soundtrack articles have all been merged into the main Devil May Cry soundtracks article, and the individual pages altered so that they now redirect. I'll take care of the various "What Links Here" pages shortly. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 13:58, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Update 2: What Links Here handled. Joy!!! Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 14:07, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] References needed for Vergil's page

We have to find some references for Vergil's page, the page itself is somewhat ok maybe requiring some cleanup but it has the problem most articles have, lack of references I will work with some tommorow, if some of you can find some to help me I will be very grateful, thanks for your cooperation. 05:34, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I rewrote the Devil May Cry plot section.

Feedback here or on the article's talk page would be appreciated. I'm aware of how long it currently is, but it's easier to remove items from the section than it is to add items to it. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 06:19, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Anime and other things

There's a new fuller trailer for the anime available via YouTube in both unsubbed and subbed versions. The information therein includes a cast list and of course actual visuals, so I think it's about time we create a Devil May Cry (anime) page. We can at least put up the title card (right? I try to stay out of the whole image/fair use thing because I honestly don't have time or the interest), the cast list, and the planned premiere date which is in June. Whatcha think? --Boradis 07:08, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

In my long tradition of replying to myself, I've created the page using a reworded version of the paragraph from Dante's page. It needs a sidebar and so forth, where we'll put the cast/character list. I'm not sure which template we'll want to use for that, so I left it off for the moment. --Boradis 07:24, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
About the template, I think we can use the one we have now in every article, at least for now. I don't know how much we can add. I just saw the new trailer but didn't see any character list (Was it in japanesse?), but maybe we can add a character list for the moment. It seems that someone mentioned, in Characters in Devil May Cry, that Lady and Trish would appear since it was added who would be the Seiyūs for them. I can't comprove it myself, but if it is verifiable, I think it should be mentioned. --Alexlayer 11:19, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Update. I just added a Character List myself. Do you guys believe this mean we'll have to have serious editions in the Characters in Devil May Cry page? --Alexlayer 11:32, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
It's more likely that the inclusion of returning DMC characters within the anime will warrant those characters getting their own character pages (like Dante, Vergil and Sparda). Currently characters like Lady and Trish lack their own pages due to the limited scope of material they've appeared in. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 18:13, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Probably the major change to the Characters in Devil May Cry page is the addition of a section for anime-only characters if they appear. 18:18, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, the character list was included in a subtitled version of the anime trailer, which is available on Youtube. Remember though the series is only 12 episodes, so while it might be worthwhile to have small writeups about original characters (of which I only saw two listed in the trailer) I would hesitate to do secondary writeups for the characters who are being carried over from the games (only Dante, Trish and Lady so far... interesting combo). I think we'll need an episode list, but wouldn't go so far as to do individual articles for each. Just yet, anyhow. I'd like to err on the side of brevity. --Boradis 01:46, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding the Soundtracks page...

Music of Final Fantasy VIII <-- See this?

Yeah. This is the template we need to follow whenever we get around to fixing up the Devil May Cry soundtracks page. Heck, I'm tempted to move it to Music of Devil May Cry just because it flows better and would allow us to move beyond the soundtracks and cover more information about the music in the games themselves. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 23:17, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

We must try to immitate this as soon as possible, but let's raise Devil May Cry to Featured Article and Devil May Cry 3 to at least Good Article before, we must remember that is the cornerstone of Devil May Cry and our presentation card ;) of course that doesn't mean that work can't be done before that but lets try to focus on the articles by priority, peace. - 02:39, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Restructuring DMC and DMC3 pages

Now that we have the obviously excellent DMC2 page as a FA (an FA? whatever) I think we should just restructure the DMC1 and 3 pages identically. A lot of the information can even be copied over, for instance the introductory paragraph of DMC2 applies equally well to the other two games. Thoughts? --Boradis 19:27, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Devil May Cry is simmilar in structure to it, now that it has reached Good Article we must try to make it closer to DMC 2 but it's quite close, now Devil May Cry 3 on the other is a mess most of the article need to be checked and tweaked so let's focus on that article. - 02:33, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
That's essentially what I did to the DMC article. The DMC3 article could likewise be copied and pasted. I'm currently working on the plot summary for DMC3 (though it's shaping up to be longer than the DMC2 plot summary and will REALLY need to be cut down before I bother posting it), so I'll toss that up when I get the chance.

[edit] Devil May Cry listed as a Featured Article Candidate

It still needs a bit of work, but I'm confident enough about the quality of the article that I feel it was about time. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 13:51, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DMC3: Sequel or prequel?

Our labeling for this title is inconsistent across the DMC pages, but I come down on the side of "prequel". If you check the Webster definition of "sequel" you'll see that it means both:

  • "the next installment", which applies because DMC3 is the third title/product released for the franchise.
  • A work "continuing the course of a story begun in a preceding one", which doesn't apply because the story aspect of the product happens before DMC1.

I would label DMC3 a prequel as it is a subsequent release containing a prior story, which is the very definition of "prequel" according to Webster's: "a work (as a novel or a play) whose story precedes that of an earlier work". As you see, the term inherently acknowledges a previously released product. A prequel is a type of subsequent release, one that contains a prior story. So, sequel = "subsequent release, subsequent story" and prequel = "subsequent release, prior story." If we choose to call it a "sequel" we are dismissing the product's story aspect, which would be fine if we were talking about Tempest or Asteroids. But story, plot and characters are essential elements in products like the DMC games. Thoughts? --Boradis 22:14, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

It's a rather thin line but I think it's more of a prequel, it's connected directly to Devil May Cry and it has nothing to do with the events in DMC 2 so prequel is the best choice- 22:20, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
And also, to bolster my position, the product's very name says is "3" meaning "there were two before this one." Any reasonable person being told that "Devil May Cry 3" is a prequel to "Devil May Cry" would conclude that it was the third released product, but contains a story set prior to the first product's story. It couldn't be clearer, really. --Boradis 23:39, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Two down, one to go!

Good work on the Devil May Cry article, everyone! Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 14:51, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah and here is a little something to help us work, I reviewed all the DMC articles and I believe this is the order of articles by priority right now:

Devil May Cry 3--> Dante -->Vergil -->Devil May Cry (series)--> List of Devil May Cry characters-->Sparda-->Manga-->Soundtracks-->Anime

DMC 4 is excluded for now since it can't probably be worked further until it's released. - 18:25, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
I'd rather work on the Soundtracks page next personally, but that looks pretty good. DMC3 is shaping up quite nicely, actually. Shouldn't take too much more work to raise it to FA. I think I'm going to do the Music of Final Fantasy VIII copying I mentioned earlier, either now or after I do more work on the Kya: Dark Lineage article. Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 19:57, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

If I might, I'd like to suggest a slightly different order:

Devil May Cry 3-->Dante-->Anime-->Devil May Cry (series)-->Vergil -->List of Devil May Cry characters-->Sparda-->Manga-->Soundtracks-->

Here's my reasoning. With the anime coming up in a matter of weeks, readers are going to be coming here to learn more info on DMC in general. Dante is the show's star and we haven't heard anything about an appearance in it by Vergil, so his page can wait a bit as it won't be as much in demand. The anime page however is going to demand our attention regardless of our plans. Firstly, it will be slammed by people wanting to know what's going on, but more relevant to our taskforce, it's going to get more editing action from Wiki-newbies and anonymous IPs. Keeping that page in non-embarrassing condition will be much easier if we've got a decent skeleton already built for it. We're going to be dealing with that issue on the Dante page as well, so having it solid before then will really help. And we shouldn't wait until after the show finishes its run, because these pages will get the most attention from readers and editors alike while it's still airing.

On a related note, in case you haven't noticed, these pages are the most popular DMC pages on the entire freakin' Internet. If you Google "Dante Devil May Cry" it's the Wikipedia Dante page that comes up first. If you Google just "Devil May Cry" the first two pages are the DMC1 and DMC3 pages. That should give you all an idea of how much traffic comes through here. --Boradis 12:09, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Something new

Check this out, guys

I'm not totally sure about it, but I think we have something new with what to work with, at least at the DMC series article. But since there'll be surely a devate about whenever this is canon or not, official or not, I think we should discuss it before attemping to do anything.

So... opinions? --Alexlayer 22:07, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Intersting, I have heard rumors of a DMC movie for some time but I always discarded them as BS like what happened with TLOZ, it does deserve a page Dragon Ball Z Gaiden: Saiyajin Zetsumetsu Keikaku isn't part of Dragon Ball Z's canon and it has a page. - 22:33, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
From what I've read, this "Sins Remembered" movie is kind of a demo-reel type thing being made by the director to show movie producers. And, also from what I recall, its purpose is to highlight the director's skills, not to promote a "real" DMC film. But that's just from memory. Personally, I'm more excited about the "Tears of Sparda" fanfilm. --Boradis 21:02, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vergil (Devil May Cry) and Sparda need to be expanded

If we are going to raise both of these articles to Good Article and with time to Featured Article we need to expand them as soon as posible. Please look up any relevant information about them, and remember to add a references when adding the info, thanks for your time. - 02:31, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Expanded? From what I see almost every known fact about the character of Vergil is on his page, and a lot of it is fancruft. His "Origin and history" section is way too long for what is actually known about the character in game canon. The summary for his DMC3 appearance is longer than the summary on the game's page -- at least the current version of the game's page plot summary which I largely wrote, but still. Sparda's article is about the right length, considering that all that is known is: he was a demon who looked like a cockroach-man with horns, he sided with humans and kicked out Mundus, he was really into swords, and he got busy at least once with a human woman. Other than that, it gets into fancruft and speculation. Re-reading it now, I see stuff I want to take out, like the sentence that says he married Eva. We don't know that, it's a fan assumption. For all we know she could have gotten so drunk one night that she went home with a giant insect-bull-guy, who sent her some swords and a necklace the next day instead of flowers. --Boradis 21:15, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Then what do we do? merge Vergil with the characters list? merge him with Sparda? If something is clear now is that once the article is cleaned up there won't be much of an article to deal with and I think it will be almost imposible to raise it to GA nevermind then FA. The Sparda being married thing is official se Capcom's profile here[1].- 21:51, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
What we do is what we did with the game pages which were full of speculation, OR, and fancruft: we trim. Thanks for correcting me re: Sparda/Eva's marital status. But as for the rest of it, as I've said many times in many ways, article length does not equal article quality. Readers can smell padding, particularly those who are serious Wikipedia types. The impulse to pad a sentence or a page must always, always be resisted. We should make the articles the best they can be, and then allow the chips to fall where they may. If the notable and reliable information on Vergil and Sparda isn't enough for individual articles then, yes, we merge them with the Characters page and we move on. So let's make the information we have relevant and properly referenced, and take another look at them. --Boradis 06:29, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Any Japanese speakers in the house?

For the heck of it, I used Google to translate the Japanese Wikipedia page about DMC, but you know how machine translation is. But I figured if someone amongst us knew a Japanese speaker, they would be able to decipher information/cites from there (of course, I'm only talking about the properly CITED information they have). For instance, the first graph of the Japanese page says something about the title being changed from "Devil May Care" because there was a movie with that title. But I don't want to misread and guess wrong. And if no one knows someone who speaks Japanese, perhaps we could appeal to one of the fansubbing organizations? Just a thought. --Boradis 07:57, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

While I do know a little Japanese I cannot label myself as trilingual yet, perhaps someone at Devil's Lair? - 08:01, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vergil, keep or merge?

Okay recently I have gone trough all the Devil May Cry pages reviewing all of them. Unfourtunately two of them were only there for the fan factor, the first one being Sparda wich I already redirected and relocated all the relevant info to Characters in DMC besides that info the only thing there were two fancruft sections: one speculating what the Legendary Dark Knight custume was (ok we know it's Sparda but it has never been directly stated thus all that is written directly about it is Original Research) and the other a fancruft section about the sword and how to get it. Now the other article is Vergil wich suffers from the same fancruft padding Sparda did. I haven't merged it because I wanted to know the opinion of other members of the Task force, place your vote and opinion here, merge or keep please provide a detailed reason for either one.- 03:12, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Merge: Despite what I said on my talk page, there is no guarantee the information on the character will grow to warranting a full page when DMC4 comes out. And even if it does, the game isn't coming until at least October or so. That's a long time to keep what is essentially a stub around, when we're trying to make all the DMC pages top-shelf. I expect we'll end up recreating it later this year, but for the time being, yeah, merge. --Boradis 08:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Merge, at least until there's more information for him. While it'd be easy to pad the article with some information from the DMC novel, I get the impression that the novel is no longer canon thanks to DMC3. Thus it's probably best to merge it. Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 13:45, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok I will merge it tonight, when more info comes around we just check the page's history revert it back and do some mayor cleanup to make way for the relevant information, thanks for your comments.- 23:10, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Merged. - 02:55, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Devil May Cry (novels) & Enzo

As you can see from the navbox I created a stub article for now, but will be filling the article tonight with more information. If anyone else has read the novels and would like to help out, feel free.

As regards Enzo, I think we should probably move him from the Manga page to the characters page as a recurring character. He shows up in the novels and manga, as well as being mentioned in the games. He is by no means a major character, but he certainly warrants mention. Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 14:13, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image Request for Devil May Cry (novels)

I've been searching online for some of the illustrations in these light novels as a form of reference, preferably one or two images from each volume. Ideally, the images should contain characters which aren't common, so Gilver, Nell Goldstein and/or Grue from Volume 1 and Beryl, Ducas and/or the Beastheads from Volume 2. If anyone has access to a scanner but doesn't have the time or inclination to clean up the images, I can do so myself. Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 14:03, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Never mind, I got it. I've just got to finish cleaning them. Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 23:24, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Next stop Devil May Cry (series)

Okay with Devil May Cry 3 up as a FAC and Dante waiting it's turn, our focus should be Devil May Cry (series), if we raise this page to good article we can continue a chain reaction and raise most of the pages within two months, so who's with me on this one? - 16:44, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Hear, hear! I gather from the push you've been doing, the Task Force is not going to be satisfied until the entire Devil May Cry is a Featured Topic, correct? Count me on board. I'm going to be occupied with Devil May Cry (novels) for a little while longer, but I certainly can contribute something to the series article and to [[Dante (Devil May Cry).
Note that for a topic to be considered a Featured Topic, it doesn't necessarily need to contain all Featured Articles. They must merely be considered Good Articles or better. The only stumbling block in this would be the Devil May Cry (anime) page and the Devil May Cry 4 page. I don't think either has enough information released at the moment to be able to raise the articles to GA status. Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 19:29, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
    • Funny you are the second user today to tell me about nominating DMC for Featured topic, the unreleased pages probably won't affect the chances of getting there but I suggest we wait at least until DMC 3 makes FA to nominate, as soon as that happens I will nominate Dante and deal with the reviewers concerns, by that time we should try to have the series page at least as a GA or better. Besides that there's the manga wich I may still add a few refs and it probably just needs a quick cleanup for GA, the novels page is coming along pretty well as soon as the second summary is there I suggest GAC and the music page wich is quite complete by now. - 19:51, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
      • I'm not a member of this project, just passing through, but I do contribute a lot to WP:Featured Topics. DMC4 not being GA would not be a problem at all- in fact, I wouldn't even bother putting it in the topic if/when you nominate it, though you can if you want to. For precedence, see that the Final Fantasy Featured Topic does not have FF13 in it. The FT rules say that they all have to be GA+ "unless such a rating is impossible", which DMC4 certainly is until it is released. --PresN 21:23, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Devil May Cry novels

Come, take a look! Both plot summaries are complete, I've got two images per book highlighting book-specific characters, and the lead-in paragraphs for each book detail a bit more about the novels. I could probably write a bit more about the non-plot points of the novels, but I've got no idea how well it's sold and haven't had a chance to really dig into the Amazon.com figures for more information. Once I get a bit more information, I think it can probably make GA-class fairly easily. Cheers, LankyYell ○ 04:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello, I'm back

I've been inactive for much of 2007, but I'm at a new job now that provides me with plenty of free time. And since it looks like we're going to have to wait until 2008 for DMC4, I'll have to slake my thirst for demon blood here by slaughtering the hordes of Speculation, Fabrication, Poor Grammar, Misspelling, and their ilk. Who else is still around, and what pages need the most work? I notice the FA stars are gone from a few of our pages, most notably Dante's own. --Boradis 02:49, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Yo, I have been around knee deep in the insanity of GACs and FACs but I am available for work on any article, however Lanky hasn't been active since June, Alexlayer and WaspObscura are quite active. Dante didn't make it, the FAC was closed halfway trough work without any clear consensus. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:56, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Anime finale

Last episode of the anime has aired in Japan and will probably soon be translated into english by one of the fansub groups. That said, I think it would be a good time to clean up the anime page and remove the extraneous character info, excessive images that were recently added, and other bits of speculation and fabrication. Anyone with me? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Boradis (talkcontribs) 22:53, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Um, the above was me. Sorry, forgot to sign. Thanks, Sinebot! --Boradis 22:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I kind of lost track of the anime back on June (I was moving) but I can probably do my part, aren't the characters on Characters in Devil May Cry already? I see no reason to keep them on the main anime page. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:11, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I've done some neatening and removing of non-notable characters (as always, the more rabid fanboys think coolness = notability). I'm keeping an eye on it. --Boradis 03:08, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] VG Sources Guideline Proposal

At Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Sources, there is a proposed guideline on sources in articles in the scope of WP:VG. Your edits and comments are appreciated. User:Krator (t c) 15:18, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I guess we're kind of "official" now

Turns out the official US Capcom DevilMayCry.com Web site is using our DMC3 synopsis verbatim. Can't link to it since it's Flash, but if you go in through the menu and select "Legacy" and then over to DMC3, you'll find our synopsis. Personally, I'm flattered. --Boradis 15:20, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Wow this is unexpected, serves to prove the quality of our synopsis. - Caribbean~H.Q. 16:19, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, we definitely rocked on that. --Boradis 21:44, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Wow, congratulations guys. That's so awesome :) JACOPLANE • 2007-10-1 22:25
I'm sorry to be a naysayer, but isn't it much more likely that we copied their text? — Frecklefσσt | Talk 18:33, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
It's a fair question, but no. I wrote the first draft of the majority of that prose in early April of 2007. It's well-documented in the article history. --Boradis 22:57, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Ditto, here. They actually did it for all three games. While I can't lay claim to the ENTIRE body of text for the DMC2 plot synopsis, large parts of it are my own writing based on a game script and a playthrough of the game. They copied us. Cheers, Lanky TALK 02:17, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DMC4 console fan edit war

The lead image for the game and the ordering of the platforms the game is appearing on are bouncing back and forth in a little edit war. Can someone familiar with the rules of properly adding artwork provide a lead box art image that's 100 percent fair use and properly cited? Neither of the ones I see being added and then removed seem to be. Personally, I'd kind of like to use the PC cover art, just to not give either side the satisfaction. --Boradis 15:36, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I noticed this a few months back but it appeared to be a very slow edit war, the best way to solve this is probably to delete the unsourced images and lokking for something released by Capcom directly, I will see what can be found some time tommorow after my PC is completely updated. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:58, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reuben Langdon-Confirmed for the Anime

I already put this up in the anime discussion page...but apparently someone is going about and still pushing it out. Here's the source, read em' and weep: http://www.advfilms.com/latest-news/devil-may-cry-ign-com/dvd-reviews.aspx?newsid471=6960 So...can anyone here help me out with this...cause it looks like angry fanboys aren't planning on putting a stop to it. =_= —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.25.23 (talk) 06:41, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

I read it and see nothing on that page mentioning Reuben Langdon. I'll be removing that information until an actual confirmation appears. --Boradis (talk) 12:34, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
I've now found a confirmation of sorts buried in the article. If your edits are being reverted but are accurate, it just means that the information wasn't clear enough for other editors, and therefore wouldn't be clear enough for the readers. Instead of flaming, just make your point in more detail. It doesn't do any good to take it personally, or to get defensive and paranoid. --Boradis (talk) 13:02, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

@_@ Who said I flamed? I was just being annoyed... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.25.23 (talk) 23:24, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Can I please join the task force I am polite I don't smell and I am sure I can help out in as many ways as I can. I have all the devil may cry games that has come out in the U.K --Patrice58 (talk) 03:45, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Vergil page

A user has created a new page for Vergil at Vergil (Character). I've put a note on the talk page there and notified the user that we had already merged Vergil into the characters page. If it's OK with the rest of you, I'd like to remove the page for the time being. The reasoning is the same as that which prompted us to merge Vergil into the Characters page in the first place. What say you? --Boradis (talk) 01:20, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

It seems he is still working with it, I say we let him finish and judge the result, if the page doesn't provide enough "out of universe" content to substain itself then we merge as a recreation. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:50, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
It should at least be redirected to "Vergil (Devil May Cry)" for the sake of consistency. I'll put a request to the page creator on the article's talk page. --Boradis (talk) 06:11, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Redirected, the creator never came back to finish the page and what remained was even worst than the version we merged. - Caribbean~H.Q. 08:10, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] I'm sure you already know...

about it, but the Devil May Cry Wiki could really use some love. I'm currently going through cleaning up the Arm and Devil articles and adding movelists (we finally found images for the buttons!), but I have to admit I don't have much experience outside of DMC3. Any help that you guys could give would be greatly appreciated. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 01:02, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DMC2 rewording needed?

Apologies ahead of time if this has already been discussed, but I was reading the DMC3 page and thought this line looked off: The game serves as a sequel to Devil May Cry and is currently the second game in the Devil May Cry series to take place chronologically. Isn't this game chronologically last/fourth? I think some rewording is needed, but I'm stumped as how to word it properly... DTwirler (talk) 18:39, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tony Redgrave-canon?

It looks like it's actually canon - on both the Luce & Ombra, and the Ebony & Ivory, is engraved

“For Tony Redgrave By Ali Art Wards”

in the anime. This also seems to indicate that the "Legendary Dark Knight" costume might actually just be future Dante. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 08:21, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Hard to determine, but it has certainly not been mentioned in any of the games, remember that the inscription was in the guns before a back-story was provided for it. - Caribbean~H.Q. 08:08, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Ah, you're right. I had never noticed that engraving before, but now I do. Okay, never mind. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 08:29, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of Devil May Cry Demons and Characters in Devil May Cry

List of Devil May Cry Demons really shouldn't have an article. If anything, it's a long list of WP:GAMECRUFT that would be shot down in an AfD for failing WP:FICT and WP:NOT#GUIDE. As for Characters in Devil May Cry, when compared to similar lists/articles (given that the distinction is nebulous now) such as Characters of StarCraft, List of characters in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, and Characters of Kingdom Hearts, it is woefully lacking in the level of out-of-universe content one would expect in an article like this. I'm not going to take it to WP:GAR, but it should be fixed to come up to par with similar articles of the same or better status (given that the article should ideally try to go for FA/FL anyway). Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 09:31, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

He's right. This project is close to having all its articles in one featured topic I think, and those articles in particular should be dealt with. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:47, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Without trying to sound biased, I'm trying to clean up the demons page now, and I'm currently halted because of an organization argument with another editor. I think the demons page could be a lot better if, instead of being a list, it primarily focused on the nature of demons in the series (that they must manifest through physical mediums, that most only live for power, that "devil's never cry"), with descriptions of example species that are not just regurgitations from the in-game library - we could get a lot of good info by describing the mythological background of their name or design, which is usually obvious (Beelzebub, Noctpteran). Most of the character demons should just be "see also" links to the character page, though, to reduce redundancy. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 20:24, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Please take a look at the demons page and weigh in with your opinion - until we can get this basic organizational thing figured out, not much is going to get accomplished. In the interest of fairness, please be as brutal to my opinion as you wish. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 20:32, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
The List of Demons was created in February 8, personally I think it should be either deleted or redirected, there are no significant characters in there, most if not all only appear to be killed by Dante or are already listed in the main list (Nelo Angelo, Credo, etc.). As for the Characters list I was thinking about expanding it when Boradis comes out of his "no spoiler" break, in order to take it to FL status after DMC 4 passes FAC. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:04, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Looking at User:Darkwarriorblake/ List of Devil May Cry Demons, it seems that there are no secondary sources that establish notability for these demons. Unless these can be found this shouldn't have its own article. JACOPLANE • 2008-03-13 22:12

[edit] can someone clear this up for me?

ive heard that dmc1 was supposed to be resident evil 4. is this true?

Blood reaper (talk) 21:55, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
The story behind the first Devil May Cry goes something like this: Hideki Kamiya was handed the option of developing a project tentatively slated to be the next Resident Evil game. Kamiya then branched out from the basic Survival Horror concept to make it a more action-oriented, lead character kicks tons of ass sort of play style (which is where the horrible fixed angles come from). After a few months of alpha builds and tentative development, Capcom decided that the project wasn't suitable for a Resident Evil franchise game, but the work done thus far had enough promise to warrant further production to see what would develop.
The entire Devil May Cry franchise was born directly because Dante was too hardcore a protagonist to work in the reality-based Resident Evil world. He would have rendered previous T-Virus and G-Virus mutations harmless by comparison and would have effortlessly outshone even the more bad-ass primaries, like Leon Kennedy or Chris Redfield.
This is pieced together from numerous interviews and thus has not been sourced. It can be, but I currently lack the time.

It has been more than three months since DMC4 came out, so that article needs to be made GA and added to the topic, otherwise it can be removed as a featured topic. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:50, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
