[edit] Standard list format

When pruning the closed AfDs at Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games/Deletion, I noticed a mish-mash of different formats being used in the archive. To standardise things, I've decided to use the simpler one in order to reduce clutter (since all the information regarding the AfD is linked anyway). So, the format is now (I guess):

* {{afdl|Andrew Plotkin}} '''kept'''

Which produces:

I've started converting entries that use the full afdl tag to this format, since they provide excessive information and badly clutter up the page. That, and they're harder to sight-read when editing the page.

If I've screwed up, and this was a bad idea, I'd be happy to convert the archive back to the other format. Otherwise, we should add a note about this at the top of the Archive page. RandyWang (raves/review me!) 10:28, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I like it. There's no point in having the full "started this date, ended this date" on every single one. I'm going to change the open AfD's to that too, especially since they're arranged in categories by date anyway. --PresN 14:13, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, no. I really appreciated the dates. Especially on the current AfDs page, the entire point of having those parameters included in the template was so that you could easily see how long an AfD went for, when it began and when it ended. Even here on the archive, it would've been useful to see, for instance, that a particular article had a 10-day long AfD back in March 2005. Even with the current restructuring on the current Deletion page, can we go back to having the timestamps? Also, it would be good if freshly closed AfDs could stay on the for at least 2 days before being moved into the Archive - it's really easy to miss. --SevereTireDamage 22:36, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Fair comments. For my part, I'll try to keep closed deletions at the other page for a few days before moving them (ie, I won't move them all at once), but I'm unsure of what to do about timestamps here in the archive. I'll wait to see what a few others think before doing anything here. Maybe we need a quick straw poll?
I'm fine with updating all these articles to include their full timestamps, by the way, but won't be able to make good on my promise above until after my exam period (which starts this coming Monday, and continues for two weeks). Sorry! :( RandyWang (raves/review me!) 03:25, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

I created the template based on the work that adashiel did on the webcomic's deletion page. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 08:45, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] maintenence regexes

Here is the regex I have been using to do most of the conversion. Improve it how you see fit.

s/^\* {{afdl\|(.+)\|?(.+)?}}\s'''(.+)'''(.+)?$/* {{afdl|\1|\2|||\3}}\4

I've been using TextWrangler's grep facility for this. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 14:17, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
