Error?

should the code really be:

importScript('[[User:Ioeth/friendly.js]]');

Shouldn't it be:

importScript('User:Ioeth/friendly.js');

Because it wasn't working for me when I tried the first. --Dan LeveilleTALK 19:48, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

The second one is correct. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 19:53, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I've fixed the installation instructions so they give the correct line of code. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 19:57, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of that, Pyrospirit. I must have spaced out when I was writing the instruction documentation. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 01:05, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

"article or section"

Seeing as you can't do section tagging with Friendly, you should make it put "article" as the default parameter for the templates that use it. For example. --Closedmouth (talk) 11:03, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Those templates that say "article or section" don't have a parameter to control which it says, unfortunately, so while this is a good idea, it's not possible. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 21:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

More Requests :)

I know Friendly already has the {{inuse}} template, but how about the {{underconstruction}} one? Also, I'd love to see some of the intro related templates added like {{tooshort}}, {{intro length}}, and {{introrewrite}}. Collectonian (talk) 05:22, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Those four templates have now been added. Ctrl+F5 for the latest version! Let me know if there are any other handy templates that you'd like to see. Thanks! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 05:23, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks :) One thing I've noticed is that it doesn't always realize tags can be put into article issues. For example, I added expert, tooshort, and and nofootnotes to an article last night, and instead of doing an article issues tag, it put them all in individually. Oh, and any plans to add expert-subject with a submenu like notability has? That would rock! :) Collectonian (talk) 01:19, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I could probably do an expert-subject submenu...that would be pretty nice. As far as grouping into {{articleissues}} goes, Friendly only groups 4 or more supported tags, so in the example you gave above, there weren't enough tags for it to group. Thanks for the good idea about expert subject tags. Keep up the good work! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 05:33, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Ahhhh! That explains it. :) I wondered why it would sometimes to it and sometimes not. Will keep that in mind :) Collectonian (talk) 05:37, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

I've two to add: How about {{trivia}}, and {{prose}}? -MBK004 04:58, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Trivia I don't think can be implemented because it's a section tag. The other one seems good to go. SchuminWeb (Talk) 05:55, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
SchuminWeb is indeed correct about the {{trivia}} tag, MBK004. I am planning on experimenting with section tags in the future, though, so it might be possible eventually. As for right now, I have implemented the {{prose}} tag, so that's good to go. Ctrl + F5, everyone! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 19:46, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Can we get {{copy to wiktionary}} added? That'd be very handy. --Closedmouth (talk) 05:10, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Install

I'm having no joy. Cache cleared. Zone Alarm off. Do you need twinkle installed - I don't use that, as yet. Wwwhatsup (talk) 03:05, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Nope, you don't have to have Twinkle installed to use Friendly. What browser are you using? Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 04:22, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Firefox 2.0.0.11 Wwwhatsup (talk) 08:51, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

It just kicked in, don't ask me why. Looking forward to using it. My first request would be for {{newsrelease}} - milder, it's a little more appropriate than {{advert}} on some music pages. Wwwhatsup (talk) 18:14, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

feature request

can you add something for thanking IP addresses that have reverted vandalism to more encourage people to revert vandalism? Please and thank-you! Sincerely, Sir Intellegence - smartr tahn eaver!!!! 20:48, 6 January 2008 (UTC) Copied from twinkle (wrong place)

Slight problem with that, in my opinion. First of all, if you're thanking someone, a personal message would be a far better gesture than a canned message with "using Friendly" in the summary. Secondly, that's when I'd apply a {{Welcomeanon}} or {{Welcomeunclesam}} to their talk page and encourage them to formally join us by getting a username. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:24, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
I was also thinking that {{welcomeunclesam}} would be a great template to apply in the case that you described, Sir Intelligence. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:23, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

New Feature Request

I've been using Friendly and it's just what I was looking for ... Now I can send welcome messages to new users very easily.

What I think would be really cool is a button somewhere in Friendly to add a template message of "Suggested Antivandal Tools" -- I've just been manually typing something like: "Hey! Thanks for your antivandal work! I thought you might be interested in these cool antivandal tools: WP:Friendly, WP:Twinkle, WP:Popups..."

Moogle10000 19:03, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

I'd be wary about mentioning TWINKLE, Friendly, Popups, etc. in welcome messages, because it would be too easy for the tools to fall into the wrong hands. You want an experienced user at the controls of TWINKLE and the like, and as users gain experience, I'm certain they'll see a tagline saying "Using TW" or "Using Friendly" and go from there. Yes, they're wonderful toys, but no way would I introduce them in a welcome message to a relatively new user. SchuminWeb (Talk) 21:20, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
The way I read it was having an extra message for it, and would not use it in the normal welcome messages. I support this idea because all though not recently, but there have been several occasions where this would be useful. Tiddly-Tom 18:31, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
If someone wants to make a template for it, I have no problem including it. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 18:34, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Friendly Twinkle?

Do the two play well together? I'm currently using Twinkle and would like to add Friendly (I'm using Firefox) - any reason not to? Anything special I need to do during install? Dumb questions, I'm sure, but... Matt Deres (talk) 02:39, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

I've got both of them, no problems. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 03:14, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Same here. They're both based off of User:AzaToth/morebits.js, so they're really similar in structure; I think this prevents any compatibility problems. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 04:08, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, Friendly and Twinkle play very very well together. In fact, in certain functions, Friendly even uses Twinkle's "vanarticle" URL parameter to automatically populate fields. For instance, with welcoming functionality, if you're on the user's talk page because you reverted some vandalism of theirs using Twinkle, if you click the "welcome" tab instead of "warn", you'll see that the article input field is already populated. This is done so that instead of leaving a new user a warning message right off the bat, you can leave them a welcome message such as {{welcomevandal}} or {{welcomespam}}. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:33, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the input, guys. I've been playing with them both for a little bit and they really do work well together - much easier to clean stuff up now. One minor strange thing did happen during installation, though. Both Twinkle and Friendly mention that I have to bypass my cache (ctrl+shift+R in Firefox) for the changes to take effect. After I installed, I also had to restart Firefox before seeing the changes. Maybe we should note that on the installation page? Matt Deres (talk) 17:08, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
WP:BYC has instructions on how to bypass your cache in all of the browsers. I'll look at it and update the documentation accordingly. Thanks! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 17:14, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

A bug in the system?

All of a sudden my Friendly script doesn't seem to be working. I was patrolling some new pages and the tab to tag the articles with maintenance tags is missing and the same for welcome messages left on user talk pages? I'd been trying to add another script User:Jayvdb/Deletion sorting tool so thought that might have affected something. I reverted my monobook page back to prior version but my tagging ability is still missing. Is there a bug in the system or is it something I've done? Sting au Buzz Me... 23:20, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Looks like it's working for me. Your monobook.js code looks fine; since Friendly and Twinkle are at the top, even errors in other scripts shouldn't cause a problem. Have you cleared your cache? I was told that there's a slight difficulty with cache-bypassing lately, which the developers are working on a fix for. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 23:55, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look. It's still not working? I might reload Friendly. I did clear the cache, but I'll do that again too. Sting au Buzz Me... 09:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
So did it work yet? I'm assuming you've restarted Firefox at some point between your two comments; that's what it took yesterday to clear the stylesheet cache for my personal styles. I've got both Friendly and Twinkle included in my monobook.js, and they're working fine, including after a recent cache-bypass (about four hours ago). This is really weird, especially if it's still not working. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 10:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Nope the article maintenance tab (tag) is not working. Well that's not entirely true. It shows up of all places on the main Wikipedia page. But I don't want to tag it. I want to be able to add maintenance tags to new pages I patrol. Not working :-( Sting au Buzz Me... 10:36, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, the "tag" tab does show up on the main page because it's in the article space. How many tabs do you have at the top of your screen when you're viewing an article. I've seen it happen before that there are so many tabs that some of them appear off of the screen. Try importing Friendly before any of your other scripts and see if it shows up before the other JavaScript tabs. If this is the case, you can use a script to rewrite the text in some of the standard Wikipedia tabs so that they take up less space. If you do need to do that, let me know and I'll install one for you. Cheers! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 18:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes that was the case before things went bad. I had so many tabs that they went off the page. All of a sudden my computer decided it was all just too hard and refused to show "tag" which was the bit of Friendly I used a lot. Anyhow, I've managed to get it working again tonight. I've been loading and reloading scripts for the last hour and I seem to get to a stage of adding extra scripts when things go pear shaped. It seems to be the persondata script that was stuffing things up (very wide tab). Not that important so I've flicked it. I can always do a cut and paste if I need to add it to a bio article. Important thing is Friendly is working now and I want to keep it that way. I also left out some other scripts I wasn't using that much. The script that rewrites the text sounds like a good idea but I'll pass for now. Thanks for the offer though. Cheers, Sting au Buzz Me... 12:08, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Groveling for an addition

Any chance {{deadend}} can be added to the "tag" tab? I, and everyone who works on the Dead End Pages project would be eternally grateful. --Fabrictramp (talk) 23:32, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

{{deadend}} is in there now too! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:24, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Awesome!--Fabrictramp (talk) 15:18, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Welcomes

Can we make it clear that using Friendly in a bot-like fashion to welcome every user who creates an account is not a good idea? We could have a bot do it, but such a task is routinely rejected; see Wikipedia:Bots/Frequently denied bots and Wikipedia:PEREN#Use a bot to welcome new users. I've seen a hand full of users doing this over the past few weeks, so it's by no means an epidemic, but clarity is A Good Thing. - auburnpilot talk 03:42, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I think that one of the main reason that we don't have a bot do it is that bots cant reply to questions, where as if a user did lots, and was happy to answer any questions, then I don't see too much of a problem. If it got to a point when a user was not able to answer every question, they have done to many ;) I personally check their contribs first, just to make sure that there not a vandal, in which case I would provide some guidance. I do understand your conserns however.Tiddly-Tom 07:07, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
It goes beyond simply being able to answer questions. (1) Tagging somebody with {{welcome}} thanks them for their contributions, which makes no sense when somebody hasn't edited yet (2) sneaky vandals are more easily spotted in a watchlist when both their user name and talk page links are red {indicating a new user} (3} the vast majority of user names never make a single edit, and we are thus creating talk pages needlessly, and (4) it's an utter waste of time to sit and welcome editors who will never edit, for 8 hours straight {as I've seen one user do}. - auburnpilot talk 14:15, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Have you considered talking to the editors you see doing this?--Fabrictramp (talk) 14:18, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
That's probably the best thing to do in these cases since it isn't widespread. If someone feels like adding it to the main documentation page, I wouldn't be opposed either. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:28, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I have tried talking to them. In some cases, I'm not the only one who has asked them to stop, yet they continue. - auburnpilot talk 14:30, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
If it continues, let me know then. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:53, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Talkpage Problem

There appears to be a certain kind of problem that will cause the java script execution to come to a halt at this point "User talk page modification: data loaded". The problem occurs only with talk pages, and it also happens with Twinkle (e.g. when using csd, and notifying the initial contributer), Surprisingly it stops at the same point as Friendly does. The problem happened today after I used AWB to append text to several user talkpages. I am not sure this is a localized problem,a global bug or simply there is something wrong with my Firefox which I ran on XP SP2. Any help will be appreciated! Cheers! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 14:19, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Friendly is actually based off of Twinkle and uses the same code library to run (morebits.js). Because of this, any problem with the editing and submittal of forms in the morebits.js code affects both Twinkle and Friendly. AzaToth is the maintainer, so you could get in touch with him or file a bug report at Twinkle's talk page. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:27, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 14:40, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it looks like this might be a Friendly bug...I'll be looking into it. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 15:02, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Turns out that someone made a careless change to MediaWiki:Newarticletext which corrupted the XHTML for all pages which used the message (i.e. new talk pages). I've fixed the problem, and everything appears to be working fine now! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 15:32, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Good job man, thanks! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 08:27, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Addition

Article Issues Update

I think Friendly may need updating to bring it up to date with articleissues. introrewrite, for example, is available in articleissues, but Friendly puts it separate. Collectonian (talk) 04:56, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

{{introrewrite}} has been set up to be included in {{articleissues}} grouping. Is there anything else that you noticed that needs to be updated? Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:08, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
On other that I think was added recently is {{self-published}}. Collectonian (talk) 22:58, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
{{self-published}} is in there now! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:24, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Don't know if you want to add it to friendly, but articleissues now supports {{External links}} :) Collectonian (talk) 00:59, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

"Added Welcomevandal template to user talk page. using Friendly" edit summary

If a new user sees that message in their edit history, they'll think we are automatically calling them a vandal. I used that tag to welcome a user and notify them that some of their contribs don't conform to our standards. I didn't want to call them a vandal and the edit summary might disparage them from wanting to become a wikipedian. Can the automatic edit summary be changed on that one? Thanks Seraphim♥ Whipp 12:05, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

May I add my support for Seraphim's suggestion. It is quite problematic and may cause severe disagreements, especially if this Welcome was the first on their talk page. Ioeth, I like the fact that you are so open to suggestions and always ready to implement them. Your work is greatly appreciated and I hope you know that. Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 14:27, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Would it be acceptable to add a flag into the script that masks the welcome template you're using? If you turn it on it will simply say "Added welcome template to user talk page..."? Seems like a decent idea for a solution to me, so let me know if that works for you. I could even have it turned on by default so that if you wanted your edit summary to say exactly what template you're using you would have to turn it off. Let me know what you think! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 15:30, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
That sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the fast response. Seraphim♥ Whipp 15:36, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Added, defaults to mask. See the documentation page for the details of the new parameter! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 16:01, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Apologies for the name confusion, Ioeth with an "I"! :-), the idea sounds great. As I said before thanks! best wishes and good luck.

Thanks indeed. :) Seraphim♥ Whipp 16:31, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Templates now linkified in edit summaries

While I was doing some other enhancements (see above thread), I added the ability for Friendly to linkify the template names in your edit summaries. Now, instead of seeing "Added {{expand}} to article..." you'll see "Added {{expand}} to article...". If anybody can think of a reason to remove this feature, let me know, but I thought it would be pretty neat to do! Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 16:35, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Addition Request

First off - this is an invaluable tool. Second, I have a couple of suggestions for additional features for your consideration:

  1. a "translate" or "not English" tag with the option via drop down to indicate the language of the article; appropriate message then posted on Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English.
  2. "merge" tag with ability to add page to be merged to, and placing merge suggestion on article talk page

Thanks, and again this is a brilliant tool! --ukexpat (talk) 16:41, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

misuse

man, do i hate this script. It facilitates so much hit-and-run tagging, its really turning this place into one big tag-soup eyesore. -- Thisis0 (talk) 08:13, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

That isn't misuse. Tagging is a part of editing too. Collectonian (talk) 08:52, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Not working

I can't get Friendly to work at all for me. I'm running Firefox 2, and I even have Twinkle running fine. But no new tabs show up when I install Friendly. I even removed everything else from my monobook.js file but still no results. Very strange. (And yes, I did bypass my cache.) --clpo13(talk) 09:58, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Addition Request

First off, this is a great tool. Tagging has never been easier for me, and never has it been as fast. I hope you don't mind i copied it over to my user space and edited it a little. My Newpage patrol Script has the habit of adding a Redirect=No after each page name, even if it is not a redirect. This causes Friendly to see it as a redirect page, so i just commented out that part of the code.

Second, is it possible to add the {{Peacock}} template to the tool? Every now and then i find good pages which are riddled with Peacock words. Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 12:25, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

I second the request for {{Peacock}}. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Ioeth, this is truly one of the more useful vandal fighting tools around (not that {{Peacock}} will help fight vandals - just peacocks 8-). Toddst1 (talk) 17:19, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Peacock

Please add {{peacock}} and any such templates. Thanks. The Evil Spartan (talk) 23:05, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Fansite

Can {{fansite}} be added? As someone who works in the fictional realm regularly, it would be a great asset. It is also available in articleissues. Collectonian (talk) 17:37, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Tag tab not functional

I have a Tag tab, however, it doesn't tag. When I check off the tags I want to add and press Submit Query, nothing happens. I installed Friendly by importing into my monobook.js. I'm using Firefox 2.0. Temporal User (Talk) 23:19, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Welcoming new users isn't working

I've been having trouble posting welcome messages to user talk pages that have no content. After I pick the welcome template I want, the window just sits forever with "User talk page modification: data loaded..." shown. This may be related to the issue that was reported a few weeks ago, here, though that was apparently fixed at the time. Anyway, I love the script and hope it will start working again for me soon! BlckKnght (talk) 03:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

I had no trouble using this very feature yesterday. Tried it again just now and it's working fine. (Firefox 2.0.0.12, Windoze XP Pro)--Fabrictramp (talk) 13:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
You know, I suspect it is because I started using the beta of Firefox 3. I see that only Firefox 2 is supported, so I suppose this is not technically a bug. If you would like to look into it anyway, I just found that there are two errors on the Error console after I try to welcome somebody:

Intro Too Long/Short

When you are are taging an article there are too entries in the tagging menu:

{{toolong}}: lead section of article is too long and should be shortened
{{tooshort}}: lead section of article is too short and should be expanded

The problem is that the description does not match what the template actually does. {{toolong}} and {{tooshort}} are templates for the article being to long not the intro. If the intent was the intro the templates {{intro-toolong}} and {{intro-tooshort}} need to be used. In my personal opinion I think that all four tags should be available for the tagging menu. - Ctempleton3 (talk) 22:05, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

I nosily looked at your monobook file, and see you have importStylesheet('Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/Add LI menu/css'); . This line nailed Friendly for me when adding delsort. (You did bypass your cache, didn't you? Sometimes it's also helpful to completely quit Firefox and restart the program after bypassing the cache.) HTH!--Fabrictramp (talk) 18:01, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure I bypassed the cache when I removed everything but Friendly, but I'll have to try again. I figured something was interfering with it... --clpo13(talk) 19:18, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

The script is also not working for me. I get the tabs into right place, but when trying to tag a page, the tagging window is opened but I am unable to proceed and "send" the templates to the page - the button obviously do not work for me. Tried FF2 and FF3 beta 5 under WinXP. I am little confused about the gadgets in general as there is close to none FAQs and manuals on the respective ones.--kozuch (talk) 11:51, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup tag?

Within a very few minutes of creating Italian support for Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war, which is one of a series of subarticles off the main Iran-Iraq War article, a "cleanup" tag appeared on the article, and Friendly was cited as a tool in applying it. There was almost no time for a human to have read the article and followed any links.

Is there something in Friendly that may be automatically applying a cleanup tag? If so, it certainly would be helpful if it would give any indication, on the discussion page, what fails to meet Wikipedia standards. If this is an automated process, it is not helpful when it gives no feedback on the problem. --Howard C. Berkowitz (talk) 23:03, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

new and cant get it to work

Hey, cant get friendly or twinkle working. Its probably a rookie mistake, but can someone help a guy out? i put the imports into monobook, but nothing happens. I bypassed that cache, and tried listing the individual packs for friendly. nothin worked. help? thanks. Jepetto (talk) 14:14, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Go to My Preferences --> Gadgets --> and tick Twinkle and Friendly.
If you have a small screen you may want to add this code in your Monobook.js;
addOnloadHook(function () {
var tabs = document.getElementById('p-cactions').cloneNode(true);
tabs.id = 'mytabs';
var listitems = tabs.getElementsByTagName('LI');

if(listitems[i].id) listitems[i].id = 'mytabs-' + listitems[i].id;
}

content = document.getElementById("content"); // Find the content div
content.parentNode.insertBefore(tabs, content.nextSibling); // Place tab list right after content div
});

and this into you monobook.css;

Add morefootnotes

Would it be possible to add {{Morefootnotes}} to the "Tag" tab? SchuminWeb (Talk) 01:21, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Friendly broken?

I'm sure this is something I did -- it usually is. :)

Today when I got on wiki, my Friendly tabs are missing. What did I do to break it?--Fabrictramp (talk) 19:24, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Yup, as suspected, it was me. I've fixed it. Duh.--Fabrictramp (talk) 22:55, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Broken Again

Friendly's Tag and Shared IP functions are broken! Luckly I did a Firebug test which said that getChecked is not defined. It said that this is the line causing trouble (line 1002):

( getChecked( form.notice ).concat( getChecked( form.problem ) ).concat( ge...

Hope one of you guys can fix it! Thanks. BTW, I've noticed this for a while, it's been broken for some time now. -- penubag  (talk) 02:09, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Installation problem

I have tried everything above, and still don't see any new tabs. I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.14 with js enabled. I have added the js and css code above, ticked the boxes in preferences:gadgets, shift Refresh, cleared the cache. Nothing works. The only thing I am wondering is if Twinkle needs to be installed as well? Any help appreciated. Derek Andrews (talk) 16:50, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I now see a tag tab in the article namespace. The thing I hadn't appreciated was that these tabs only appear in appropriate namespaces, so I may have been looking in the wrong place. However, I am still not seeing a welcome tab in the user namespace. Derek Andrews (talk) 20:01, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Must be time to quit for the day. SHould be looking in the USerTAlk space:) Derek Andrews (talk) 21:08, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't matter if you cannot see the tabs, this script is broken. I'm still waiting for someone to come and fix it. -- penubag  (talk) 23:51, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Tagging with copyvio

Is it possible that there could be an option to tag a page as a copyvio? Parent5446 (t n c k e l) 14:49, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

That big copyvio tag is probably better left as one done manually, since it requires someone with a brain to implement right, and I don't think a script would be able to do it right. SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:58, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

BOLDly go where no man has done before

I went bold and updated friendlytag.js utilizing some new features in morebits.js, also then I fixed some bugs I found there. hope I didn't introdcued any more :) AzaToth 16:35, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! Mind telling me what changed? :) -- penubag  (talk) 16:35, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
things like the select menu under notability, future etc... is builtin as a feature in morebits.js now, which removes the need for the extra callbacks just to create the select forms. Also the getChecked is now defined in morebits for HTMLFormElement, and thus the problem that has been that it has either been undefined or that it has been overdefined is solved. I also fixed the non-functional RegExps (not enough escapes). AzaToth 17:23, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

General Notability Notice

The option to choose a general notability notice has gone. This was quite useful when articles didn't quite fit into one of the categories. Any chance of putting this back? --Deadly∀ssassin 13:48, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Potential problem user welcome

Is there any chance of including this template Template:Firstarticle from WP:Welcoming committee/Welcome templates/Table to the list of problem user welcome templates? It's useful if a newly registered users' first act is to create a page which may need to be deleted. Also, it would be good if this could be put at the top of the talk page as it looks better than underneath the slightly less friendly CSD / AfD notice tags. --Deadly∀ssassin 06:59, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Welcome messages before CSD's

Forgive if this has been covered in the archives, I took a quick look and didn't see anything. I'm wondering if it's possible to automatically send a welcome message before twinkle's CSD notification message? In the spirit of not biting... xenocidic (talk) 13:55, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

That sounds like a good idea. However, there has been long-standing opposition to bot-added welcome messages. I'm not sure whether a welcome message automatically added as a byproduct of a script fits that category, but it might be worth seeking wider input (perhaps at the village pump?) before implementing this. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:22, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Good point, but its just a shame to be "welcoming" a newbie with an automated CSD message generated by Twinkle. xenocidic (talk) 13:30, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
I do agree with that, but I think we also need to be aware of the consensus that automated welcomes are a somewhat devalued currency (proposed welcome bots are repeatedly denied authorisation at WP:BRFA). I'm also unsure whether the script could accurately determine whether they are appropriate: if a user who had been previously welcomed had subsequently blanked their talk page, how ould the bot know that a welcome was un-needed? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:02, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[]

Requests

Would it be possible to add {{Future ship}} and {{Morefootnotes}} to the tagging functionality? They would be most useful. Thanks, -MBK004 02:19, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

{{Morefootnotes}} would be useful across wikipedia, and it woukd be great to have it included.
However, {{Future ship}} is a highly specialised tag, and for the vast majotrity of editors it would just be clutter. I think that it would be very useful to add {{future}}, and while I considered suggesting that more specialised tags in that family could be included in a dropdown men (as is already done with notability), I notice that Category:Temporal templates shows list over 50 future X templates. That may be too many to include. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:41, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
