[edit] A template for this project

The first thing we need to really get this project going is a WikiProject banner to tag all The Who articles. Anyone good with making templates? - Rocket000 05:31, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

GrooveDog made us this... Template:WikiProject The Who, but I've been too busy to start tagging articles with it. Thanks for your help, by the way! -MichiganCharms 17:29, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Articles in our scope

We need to list which articles fall under our scope, obviously all of those in the Template:The Who, but besides those things like guitar smashing and Thunderclap Newman I can go about compiling such a list, though I'll have no idea where to put it lol -MichiganCharms 01:22, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

I would make a subpage for the list. Something like: Wikipedia:WikiProject The Who/List of articles. I'll help with making the list, but what exactly do you have in mind? Just a plain list of articles, or a table, or a category tree... - Rocket000 04:46, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

A quick way of getting a dynamic list of everything in Category:The Who would be to use a <category tree> like the special page does.

May be useful for navigation, but that's about it - Rocket000 05:22, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

I just think it would make things easier for tagging and assessing the articles. Good idea, though. -MichiganCharms 05:59, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh, definitely. I just suggested the category tree as a means to starting the list. As for tagging all the articles, I can run AWB to get everything already in Category:The Who. This wouldn't assess the articles, just add our project banner to all the talk pages. Should I do this, or would you prefer an assessment at the time of tagging? (I can also generate a report of everything I tagged or was already tagged - this can be used initially as the list for assessment) - Rocket000 06:40, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, go ahead and do both of those. I'm wondering, should we attempt to cover everything related to Track in a similar fashion to how The Beatles project includes all of Apple? -MichiganCharms 12:18, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, they're all tagged! I'll post the list after I organize and format it. - Rocket000 00:23, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm holding off on the list because I'm trying to decide how to incorporate things like assessment using the auto-generated content which I posted on the project page. - Rocket000 02:54, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template Edit

I created a picture for the template and added it, I just didn't like the previous picture which looked like a blur. If anyone has any issues with it please feel free to tell me. -MichiganCharms 18:07, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

At User:MichiganCharms/Sandbox I have a proposal for another template for pages like, say, Purple Haze. -MichiganCharms 21:19, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I wasn't satisfied with the first one either, so I made a new one. I left it in my sandbox. I was going for something a little more compact than yours. Good idea with the specified templates. Maybe we can implement a function into the current template to archive this for certain pages. I rather have one template than two. - Rocket000 22:43, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Another thing - should we have an "importance" rating? - Rocket000 17:49, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bootlegs?

I'm thinking we need to make an article on Who bootlegs. I've made a rough list of important video documents at User:Resident_Geek/The_Who_bootlegs, really just brief thoughts vomited onto a keyboard. I'm short on time right now, so I'm hoping you guys can flesh it out, clean up what's there, and/or rewrite it entirely. I've added a few half-assed citations, but I don't have any Who books with me right now, so I'm hoping someone can help there. Needs '82 videos and audio bootlegs (9/20/65, Live in Sweden '66, Cry Blue Murder, '69 soundboards, other tours, specific significant recordings), possibly videos that are known to exist from 30 Years of Maximum R&B or The Kids Are Alright (London Coliseum 12/14/69, Woodstock in color), maybe the Purple Hearts & Power Cords collection (has a review on AMG, which is a plus). I'm glad someone started a Who project, I'll help wherever I can. Resident Geek 23:36, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

That's a very good idea, you should get it started :) also, you should definitely join up here! -MichiganCharms 00:11, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, please join! Let's make this something like The Beatles bootlegs or Led Zeppelin bootleg recordings, i.e. more than a list. I'll start working on it. By the way, what should the article be named - "The Who bootlegs" or "The Who bootleg recordings"? - Rocket000 18:00, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Recordings is an unnecessary disambiguation, what other kinds of bootlegs by The Who would there be? I'll contribute when I can, school is really holding me back :( -MichiganCharms 02:15, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
"The Who bootlegs" it is then. I was just wonder if there was a naming convention preferred. Like The Beatles bootlegs vs Led Zeppelin bootleg recordings. - Rocket000 06:19, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Template

I'm dissatisfied with the image, I don't know if it would be right to use the RAF symbol, though, either... but I'm willing to go with it until a better alternative is found - MichiganCharms 22:52, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, now that I think about it the RAF roundel is not the best to represent The Who even though they are probably the closest tied to it (pop-culturally). I made the one that I used in my template ([1]), so you're more than welcome to alter it. Maybe add the male/Mars symbol {} to it? Or maybe just part of it like in the corner?
On a side note: I customized the roundel in the first place, instead of using one already on Wikipedia, so it wouldn't be exactly the like the Royal Air Force's current design. The colors were based on the Union Jack and the proportions were based on the older style used during the "mod" '60s (slightly larger white area). This shouldn't be used for anything else like an article on official insignia, so just re-upload over it any changes you make (or I can just delete later). - Rocket000 00:10, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redirects

Hello people, I've redirected a whole bunch of The Who's songs back to their albums due to notability and redundancy issues. They do not pass the notability criteria for songs, and the information they contain already exists in the respective album's article, and is hence redundant. Further, almost all of these stubby songs were completely unreferenced, let alone citing {WP:RS|reliable sources]], so they are often entirely products of original research. If you feel any of my redirects were incorrect in any way, please drop me a line at my talk page, thanks, indopug (talk) 21:50, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Need To Restart This Project

This project has stalled to a standstill, which deeply saddens me. If anyone is interested in restarting this project please begin contributing... my goal is to finish article assessments and go from there. -MichiganCharms (talk) 06:42, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
