[edit] Taoism article
The article above is current good article candidate. The nomination has been placed on hold for reasons indicated on the articles talk page. Any efforts to address these concerns would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Badbilltucker 17:59, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 18:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Religion
The group indicated above was recently revitalized for, among other things, the purpose of working on those articles whose content is such that the article does not fall within the scope of any particular denomination. To most effectively do this, however, we would benefit greatly if there were at least one member from this Project working on those articles. On that basis, I would encourage and welcome any member of this Project willing to work on those articles to join the Religion WikiProject. Thank you. Badbilltucker 14:46, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you Bill. I'll join the Wikiproject Religion but don't know how active I can be.Itsmejudith 15:54, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Celestial Masters
I wrote this article (Way of the Celestial Masters) and have recently had a problem with someone else who changed the name to Tianshi School, which I don't think is a good name for the article. I really would like people to respond to this debate, which last time only had three votes. I've restarted the change process because I believe there need to be more votes to gather a consensus, and because since then, I believe my argument in favor of the name 'Way of the Celestial Masters' has been clarified. If you can, please read what I have written (the long section), and take into particular account the google numbers, as well as Wikipedia's naming policy. Then vote! All this is at Talk:Tianshi School. Thanks.Zeus1234 00:34, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Omnipotence
I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for an announcement, but I did not find a Taoism-related articles noticeboard. I have been trying to put in other (hinduist, toaist, buddhist) views into now mostly western (christian) articles about religious concepts. I have learned about taoism by means of self-study and know to little of taoist literature to make good references. So my edits are rediculed and erased, leaving one sided western view articles. One of these articles is Omnipotence. Would somebody be so kind in checking the taoist views i wrote to be correct, elaborate them and add useful references? Thanks in advance Teardrop onthefire 08:58, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sure this is a good place for your request. I'm in a similar position to you so I won't be able to help much. You could also leave a message at WikiProject Religion.Itsmejudith 11:56, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- A message has been left there. Badbilltucker 14:26, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- This is indeed a good place for such a request. If you don't have access to academic sources, I would suggest you search google books, which has many very good academic books about Taoism. You do a search for whatever you need, and then reference the results that come back. Of course Google books is limited, but it is better than nothing. I would be happy to look over your writing though.Zeus1234 14:10, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Assistance in building articles
I would really appreciate any help that could be offered on the following articles. Don't be shy about diving into the edits. If there's a disagreement, we can always work it out. Be bold!!!
- Taoic religion --- expanded from stub, needs more work, especially filling out sections in editor notes and referencing claims
- Mantak Chia --- expanded from stub, needs more work, especially his teachings, criticisms against him and needs more sources
- Internal alchemy --- created from scratch, needs more work, suggestions for how to expand this article appreciated
Thanks ahead of time for any help!! Vassyana 13:52, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know much about Taoic religion and Mantak China, but I can offer some suggestions on how to improve the article on Internal Alchemy. There are several good resources for this topic (all of which are available on Google Books). Firstly, there is Isabelle Robinet's book Taoism: Growth of a Religion which has a chapter dedicated to Neidan, and is very readable. There is also the Daoism Handbook which has a chapter on Neidan as well. There is also Joseph Needham's Science and Civilization in China which offers a more scientific approach to alchemy.Zeus1234 16:45, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Taoic religion
I have nominated Taoic religion as a good article. Feedback is welcomed. Vassyana 10:21, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think you should consider adding a photo or photos. I don't think the map itself is enough. Maybe just add some photos of temples or something.Zeus1234 13:51, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Advice taken. Thank you. Vassyana 15:23, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] in need of references
I believe the article Taoist_sexual_practices should be checked for references and stated claims by someone with expertiese on the subject. If somebody would point me into the direction of reliable references I would be more than happy to help out. Teardrop onthefire 16:03, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
That article is a bit of a problem. Before I almost completely rewrote it, it was filled with lots of new-age crap that was totally unreferenced and poorly written. I sourced and wrote the part about ancient practices, but have no idea where to look for stuff about the new age practices (which I didnt write). People quite adding unreferenced parts to this section as well. Should it just be completely deleted I wonder? Zeus1234 20:58, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- The part on contemporary female practices is sourced, but that's the only part.Zeus1234 21:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- I think this is a great article and should be added to, referenced and verified as sugguested by Teardrop onthefire.
-
- There was recently coverage of the topic on the History Channel and I believe it deserves more attention.Caddcreativity 03:00, 08 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] China officially opens to Taoism
The International Forum on the Daodejing is taking place in China (it started yesterday and it is going to finish on the 27th of April). The Chinese Taoist Church and the website China.org.cn have released a lot of wonderful material and informations about Taoism. As a matter of fact they've opened some websites like this and this en/this zh. I think you can create a new article about the event and use the infos of the websites (in this website there are articles about the feasts, the deities, the Taoist lifestyle and the tools of the priests). --Nyo it 17:18, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Merge Taijitu and Yin and Yang
I have proposed a merge of these two pages, as they cover a single concept from two different cultural perspectives and angles. One just talks about the symbol, the other the philosophy (which seems to include a large amount of original research), but as the Taijitu is the symbol for the Yin and Yang wholeness-in-duality concept I think they deserve a merge into a single article equally covering both angles. VanTucky 21:53, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. They should definetly be merged.Zeus1234 22:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed, the two articles should be merged Teardrop onthefire 07:54, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, support merge. Itsmejudith 10:23, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- I strongly oppose this merger. It is exactly the wrong merger. Yin-yang theory is related to, but seperate from taijitu and taiji. Taijitu should be merged with taiji, not yin and yang. Just my two cents. Vassyana 17:19, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- I personally think that taijitu could be merged in yin/yang and taiji, as it is relevant for both topics.Zeus1234 17:23, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- I can understand that rationale. The taijitu is a broadly used symbol, after all. However, I simply feel it is more relevent to taiji, being explicitly a symbol of such. It is descriptive of yin-yang, but only as it relates to taiji. Just some thoughts. Vassyana 21:10, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New project proposal
There is a new WikiProject task force proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Inter-religious content that is being proposed to deal specifically with articles whose content relates to several religious traditions. Any editors interested in joining such a group would be more than welcome to indicate their interest there. John Carter 15:09, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Improving article
Eastern religion is currently being improved. Please help bring this central topic article up to standard. Vassyana 03:56, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Lao Tze's birth
It would be good if project members could cast an eye on the descriptions of Lao Tze's birth in List of virgin births and Reports of unusual religious childbirths. I don't know whether the sources are adequate to provide any entry in either of these lists. Thanks. Itsmejudith 18:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Five Precepts(Taoism)
Can someone familiar with Taoism comment if Five Precepts(Taoism) is accurate? Googling around suggests the article is describing Buddhist beliefs. NeilN 04:05, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- It may well be an accurate description of a conduct/belief system that has been placed under the umbrella of Taoism. After all, there has never been a rigid distinction between Taoism and Buddhism. However, the article has other problems: it has no inline citations and the English style is poor. I suppose one would have to get hold of the cited book in order to follow it up properly. Itsmejudith 14:18, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Understanding Heaven and Hell
Hi guys, can you help with this article? It is currently on Afd and the sources are in Chinese so we cannot verify it.
I placed this post earlier in WP:CHINA and they led me here.--Lenticel (talk) 08:22, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- I wouldn't mind helping, although I am not familiar with "proper Wiki etiquette". Please let me know how I can assist in a coordinated manner. CADDCreativity 03:00 November 08, 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Expand {{Infobox church/sandbox}} to cover all places of worship?
There is a proposal to convert the draft infobox template {{Infobox church/sandbox}} into a template that can be used for all places of worship. We would like your views on whether you think this is a good idea, and if you are able to help identify parameters that would be relevant to the religion that your WikiProject deals with. Do join the discussion taking place at "Template talk:Infobox church". — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 03:53, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Additional problem articles
Besides the already deleted Understanding Heaven and Hell and The Feast of Immortal Peaches discussed above, this same user created numerous articles without reliable references or sources. I've already started correcting some (like Qingjing Jing and Xishengjing), but others should perhaps be merged or deleted. Several articles have no references (other than the 天堂遊記) and dubious external links:
- Fulu
- Disha 72 ways
- Xiushen
- Jingxiang
- Tiangang 36 methods
- Five Supremes
- Xuanxuan Shangren
- Chinese creation story
- Souyuan [sic]
A few other articles that he/she started have apparent references, but often irrelevant or repeated ones (citing "Robinet 1981, p. 13" under at least Taoism, Laozi, Neijing Tu, and Xiuzhen Tu):
This is an incomplete list of the damages to Daoism-related articles. What are your opinions on what should be done? Keahapana (talk) 22:49, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- We need to engage the user in dialogue here and see if he can understand the aims of this project and work collaboratively to rectify the difficulties with the articles. He is obviously very interested in Taoism, energetic, and may know some sources. Itsmejudith (talk) 12:04, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- Hi… I rarely post anything on Wikipedia because I am generally satisfied with most articles but I am quite disturbed by what ACHKC is doing these past few months. I agree a lot of the new articles warrant deletion (especially Xuanxuan Shangren, Five Supremes and Souyuan). His single unverifiable sources for most of his article came from a pre-dominantly Abrahamic website, not to mention he didn’t provide any proper citation in most of his contributions.
-
- He didn’t create Chinese Creation Story but he added the same questionable material, it needs to be restore to the article before his contribution. The article on Taiji (Taiji article is now seriously misrepresented) and Chinese Mythology also require repair.Bio-capsule (talk) 17:58, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

-
- Agreed that the above articles mainly seem to be in a bad way. As I don't read Chinese I feel a bit powerless to help. But I left a message at user:ACHCK's talk page for him to come to this project and engage in dialogue. If he responds, let's be really welcoming. Itsmejudith (talk) 19:29, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

- user:ACHCK has accepted your invitation to join the project… I only recently found out about the changes he did to the Chinese Mythology & Jade Emperor article, now he is claiming Guan Yu is the new Jade Emperor, that is just unacceptable… Bio-capsule (talk) 19:56, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
