[edit] Neighborhood naming convention

In case anyone hadn't noticed, Wikipedia:Communities strawpoll is voting on a uniform naming convention for all neighborhoods of U.S. cities. The proposition currently leading by a wide margin would apparently entail renaming most New York City neighborhood articles to something like neighborhood, Syracuse, New York. olderwiser 19:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Some neighborhoods in Syracuse – Eastwood, Elmwood, Danforth, Salina, Syracuse (downtown), and I think Geddes and Onondaga – were originally incorporated villages and should have their own articles reflecting their history both before and after annexation. Also, some of the towns and villages have historians. DeWitt just embarked on a project to upgrade their historian's pay and resources, and East Syracuse has a historian who's very gung ho. ~~Clarkpark~~

[edit] Belated welcome to the family of city WikiProjects

I'm a member of WikiProject Louisville, and I just wanted to offer my best wishes, and also technical support (if you should need any) for your new city WikiProject. Cheers! Stevie is the man! TalkWork 16:21, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eastview Mall

As the nearest local WikiProject (New York state lacking one), your project may be interested in the AfD on Eastview Mall. This AfD could help set precedent for keeping articles on shopping centers in the future. --AlexWCovington (talk) 06:29, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New NY WikiProject

Greetings. At long last, a WikiProject for New York State has been created at WP:WPNYS. I can add this WikiProject as a descendant project of WP:WPNYS if no one objects. Regards, TMF T - C 21:52, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

No objections here! -newkai t-c 20:09, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requested Move of Syracuse Post-Standard

I requested a move of Syracuse Post-Standard to The Post-Standard since this is the real name of the newspaper. If you support/object, see Talk:Syracuse Post-Standard. -newkai t-c 20:45, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 19:09, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 147 New Syracuse Photos under CC-SA

Recently a Flickr user by the name of Daquella Manera uploaded 147 photos under a CC-SA licence. If you need photos for articles, check them out here. -newkai t-c 18:37, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Some nice pics. The last pic there is, i believe, a pic of Crouse College, Syracuse University, an article which could use an illustration. I think the flickr photo is not usable in wikipedia, though, without it being released under a GPDL or other license by the photographer. doncram (talk) 21:47, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 22:16, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I'm back

After a lengthy wikication, I'm back (Wikipedia wasn't helping me find a job). I'm going to do my best to maintain this project weekly. -newkai t-c 15:29, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shortcut

Hey guys, i thought i'd do you a favour and create a shortcut to your page (even though you already have one), just type in WP:SYNY and you'll get a direct link to the WikiProject, its much easier i have found after creating my WikiProject, WP:WLA or WikiProject Los Angeles, if you dont like it feel free to delete it. Cheers, (♠Taifarious1♠) 03:37, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Historic Places in Syracuse Area

Syracuse wikipedians are invited to join in documenting the 108 historic sites in Onondaga County that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I and some others are working ahead in taking photos and posting new articles...see announcements on the main page of this wikiproject. A complete list of sites to cover, with addresses and some info, is available at NRHP sites in Onondaga County. I can provide links to other sources of info to inform article-writing, too. Please join in!. Feel free to announce your own new photos and articles on the main page of this wikiproject, and ask any questions here. Cheers.... doncram (talk) 17:32, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

About 58 sites, out of the total of 122 or so, now have articles. See List of Registered Historic Places in Onondaga County, New York. doncram (talk) 02:32, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Best / highest rated articles?

Hey, what are the best and/or highest rated articles included within the Syracuse wikiproject? Or which have the greatest potential for getting Good Article status, I wonder. I don't see any assessment within the project per se, but most articles could also be covered and rated by the New York wikiproject or another wikiproject. doncram (talk) 01:56, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

  • That's a good question. Can someone take the liberty of finding this out?--ZeWrestler Talk 17:14, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Syracuse University Buildings

I was wondering if I could recruit some people from this project to help work on the List of Syracuse University buildings article. As of now, I've been the primary contributor to it, since its creation in December and there's still a significant amount of information that needs to be added. Any help would be great. --ZeWrestler Talk 06:21, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Some given, but still mainly Zewrestler's work to date. doncram (talk) 02:34, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Beyond doncram's help, there's been no work on this article besides me since Feb. May someone please lend a hand and put in building descriptions? --ZeWrestler Talk 14:48, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New York State Route 175

New York State Route 175 has been nominated for FA status. Given it goes through Syracuse, I've added it to this project. Please take a look at the article and comment as appropriate.--ZeWrestler Talk 02:04, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

  • Article is now an FA--ZeWrestler Talk 04:51, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Thanks for pointing out that it was FA. I went to look at it there and found an article for Route 174, also FA. I added it to this wikiproject. Lvklock (talk) 05:41, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
