[edit] Icon
I thought having an official icon in the way of WP:MILHIST and other projects would be cool so I went over to Wikimedia commons and checked out some options. Here are some that I found.
If anyone has any others then please post them here. --Cheif Captain 20:45, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- I like the Olympic pictogram best. I don't like the one that is just a splash, it's kinda awkward. The first fish is nice, the dolphin could work, but it makes us look like we were WikiProject Dolphin. The blue fish scares me... --wpktsfs 21:48, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
I found these at 2008 Summer Olympics
The only problem is that they are copyright Olympics, and chances are I'm breaking some law by having them on this talk page. However, if anyone could make an image that combines the likeliness of these images, it would be great! --wpktsfs 22:12, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

- See proposed userboxes below for free use logos. I might draw something up and scan it... something that includes all water sports... I don't know... I have a lot on my plate in the real world right now. --wpktsfs 18:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
found these at commons, but they only show one water sport each. -Lemonflash 20:10, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

- I think that we should just use the blob of water ;). --Lemonflash|talk 22:48, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

This could work. Perhaps witht the border removed. // Liftarn |
[edit] Lists
Created List of divers, List of synchronized swimmers and List of water polo players for the project. // SMARTSKAFT | ¿ 11:27, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Great work. If you could keep that as updated as possible, that would be great! --wpktsfs 21:49, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Picture of Swimming article
I've always HATED the picture of the "breaststroke swimmer" on the top of the Swimming article. Howver, I have never bothered to do anything about it. I am currently browsing through club photos to find something more appropriate. I have a Team Canada swimmer on my team, so perhaps I could find something great. Any suggestions, oppositions? Tingalex 21:41, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- I HATE THAT PICTURE WITH A PASSION. Please do whatever you want with it. I would rather have a picture of someone standing on land than have that picture. Haha... anyways yes please. I think that the picture of the swimmer on the Front Crawl article would look nice on the swimming article, but you are welcome to find one of your own! --wpktsfs 21:45, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank God you hate it as well. Hopefully I can find something great soon enough. Tingalex 22:25, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- I hate that picture too. The front crawl one looks all right. --Lemonflash 00:43, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that's a bit better. Sorry I havent't found something great yet...I've been really busy with my music. I still plan on finding something awesome. Tingalex 01:39, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Userboxes
All of the userbox templates are not ones. --Lemonflash 00:37, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- I use my own custom userboxes for all of mine. Mabey something simple just using text would do.
Like this:
swim | This user is a swimmer |
wp | This user is a waterpolo player |
dive | This user is a diver |
Cheif Captain 04:37, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Or like this (using the icon series seen above):
Cheif Captain 04:40, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- I love the second set. --wpktsfs 18:50, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I used one of them and just put that I was in this Wikiproject. --Lemonflash 22:15, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I didn't even know there was a Swimming WikiProject, neat! Anyway, I made this ubx recently. I figured there's probably more ex-swimmers than current swimmers (myself included). Feel free to use! Tell your friends!

[edit] article
I would like to write an article on swimming, could you help?TheConfudedFreak 16:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- What do you mean? --Lemonflash 21:48, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] infobox
We have no template for swimmers on Wikipedia, I would make one but I don't understand how. --Lemonflash 22:16, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- I added a prototype infobox on Template:Infobox Swimmer that is open for discussion here. --I Are Scientists 03:07, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Subcats
Note about subcats - eg, Category:Olympic swimmers of Australia is a subcat of Category:Australian swimmers. Please do not add the supercat as well, and remove if you come across it.
From the project page.
I don't see the point with that. All other sports groups all the athletes (Category:Swedish athletes, Category:German footballers) in the same category. // SMARTSKAFT | ¿ 08:05, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Manual of Style
Is there any Manual of Style for the tables in championship articles and the world record progression lists? All looks different to each other. // SMARTSKAFT | ¿ 19:38, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I have created a Wikipedia Ad for this project. I have added it to the frontpage of this project, including the code to show the ad on your own userpage. Hopefully you like it. -Jort227 19:22, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Research help for a sticky BLP
Do we have any good sources for current and past Canadian swimming records, British Columbia specifically possibly high school age, supposedly still held in 2007. We've got a high attention, high controversy, BLP article where whether or not there were such records is being questioned. If true, it should probably remain in the article. So we need sources. Any help will be appreciated. GRBerry 20:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm Swiminfo is the place to look, if anything at all exists. They are by far teh most detailed swimming database on earth and they do have results of US high school comps. Maybe not Canada though. Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 00:04, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I failed to find Canada records on that site, and their search feature requires premium access. Oh well. How significant is the "British Columbia Summer Swimming Association" http://www.bcssa.bc.ca/? We've managed to source some still held records within that association. And what would be the national association/league/competition for Canada? GRBerry 04:16, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I looked in these numbers. I guess if those times were in long course pools, then they would be ok, since the fastest guy is 50.2s over 100m free. If it was short course, the times would be pretty bad. Canada does have open championships like most countries, for selecting olympics and World champsionships teams. [edit] Help request: GA backlog
Hello. There has been a large backlog at the Good Article Nominations page for a while. Since most of my editing is in the Sports and Recreation category, that is the area that I am currently focusing on. To try to cut down on the backlog, I'm approaching projects with the request that members from that project review two specific articles over the next week. My request to WikiProject Swimming is to try to find time to review Stuart Elliott (footballer born 1977) and New Year's Revolution (2007). If these are already reviewed by someone else or you have time for another review, it would be great if you could help out with another article. Of course, this is purely voluntary. If you could help, though, it would help out a lot and be greatly appreciated. The basic instructions for reviewing articles is found at WP:GAN and the criteria is found at WP:WIAGA. I recently began reviewing articles, and I've found it fairly enjoyable and I've learned a lot about how to write high quality articles. Best wishes, GaryColemanFan (talk) 17:25, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Dick Hannula
I've just created Dick Hannula, mainly to get rid of a redlink on Tacoma, Washington. I figure the folks in this project would be able to expand this stub of an article more, add the correct categories, etcetera, etcetera. Have at it. Travisl (talk) 21:00, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Project vision.
I've recently joined this project and it appears to me that this project isn't that active. I'm going to try and change this. I've been trying to tag articles with our template hence adding them to the project. Ive compiled a list of over 6000 articles that fall into the scope of our project, so it's going to take a while to tag them all. I started by using AWB but realized its going to take me too long, so ive put in a request for a bot account that will use AWB and it will just automate the process and make it a heap faster. The request can be found [[1]]. If it's approved it will initially be used to tag the talk pages, but after that, i imagine that it will be used to maintain the articles and do spelling checks etc) all using AWB.
I think the first steep is identifying all the articles, and then slowly but surely assesing them and all that sort of stuff. And fixing the articles as we go.
We just need a vision and goals and we'll succeed. Any comments about my statement just leave them here. Cheers Printer222 (talk) 12:07, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
